1952 Topps Mantle PSA 7 Heritage Auctions

Records for this card have been insane this year. Didn't think a 7 would go for this much for another few years.

Wow! Surprises me too...but when an 8 in this card sells for $450k+...then >$200k for a 7...doesn't seem that unreasonable. All boats are lifted by the high tide.

That one had to have been bought with the though it would bump to 7.5/8 at some point. Nice corners and centering - very strong example for the grade and would not look out of place in a holder with a higher grade.

There were a lot of high prices from that auction. I thought the Ryan RC was a below average example due to tilt and centering but it still sold for a record 40K with the juice. I do like this Mantle PSA 7. The blue background is exceptional. It seems like a good candidate to bump.

Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona.

  • It's in a new holder so it's likely someone already attempted the bump or it was already bumped. I agree though, great color...if only it was centered better

Some really eye popping and noteworthy auction results last night.
These were the three results that most surprised me after that PSA 7 Mick...

    - 52 Topps Mick PSA 5 - $57,000

    - Lou Gehrig 1925 Rookie Card - $10,755

    - 52 Bowman Mick PSA 7 - $10.1k

What was your expectation on this one? I haven't tracked it before, but doesn't seem too outrageous for a pre-war HOF RC (though might be for that grade).
  • Still getting accustomed and familiar, but this uncut sheet is pretty cool!

Keep an eye on the BGS/BVG pops of the 52T Mantle. This sheet will be cut up and the Mantle (and others) in a holder before long...

With the creases in the cards I can't imagine it is worth more cut up.

  • Would and could psa/sgc authenticate this?

That's possible. Looks like there's a potential for a few high grade commons and the Mantle 1/1.5, Jackie a little better. If it doesn't go much higher, the break up value might be worth it, but it would definitely be a gamble shooting for 9/9.5 on a couple commons. What do you think they would go for in Beckett holders?

If other sets are a guide low pop commons do not garner anywhere near the prices in BVG/BGS or SGC holders since their registries aren't very active and most know the odds of a cross over are very low.

Hopefully someone really wants this great piece of history and keeps it intact. I love seeing old artifacts like this.

in regard to the uncut 52 sheet.....the cover pic def doesn't match the photo on its item page.

with regard to the PSA 7 (and the 5)....its getting so I'm priced out of ever owning a 52.....it is a remarkable 7 but 200k? I agree with it may have already been resubmitted due to the new holder.
...maybe ill just buy a reprint...sigh

therookie monster...welcome aboard....a lot of mantle collectors here..if you have your eye on buying it....announcing it here will def put more eyes on it....tho we all like to share and follow these auction.....it gets tricky

Checked VCP for 7's this am and past history was in the $40-50k range. Makes you wonder on this one since $80-100k I can understand but $200k? Like I stated previously the buyer must think it has a good chance to bump to a 7.5. Centering l/r is very strong and t/b is better than most. Buy the card and not the holder I guess.
  • Seebelow, Thank you. And isn't everyone a mantle collector? image Not enough cookies in my jar for this one though. ONE DAY!!!

I see no difference. The cover pic is just low quality.

mlbfan2...I'm was going by the cover pic i got in my email from them......theres a closeup/cutout of the top 2 cards (mick and robinson)....with the mantle having 2 very sharp corners (def photoshopped)....and an overall shot of the sheet where the corners are missing....(corners were cropped out of the photo)

Looking at the catalogue in hand...its def a different cover.....where, yes, it looks like a true picture coinciding with its item page.
