BBCE Mailday

I missed the UPS guy the last two days. I finally had a chance to pick up my package from UPS today. I recently ran out of bubble wrap so it was a good excuse to make a purchase. This was actually the shipment from the case break a while back, but it took a little while for me to pay off the add-ons. Anyway, here it is:

Oh yes, I recognize that packing tape. It's been a whileimage

A little group pick!

First, the stuff from the group break. Very clean boxes all around. I am happy with all of them.

Add on #1. I wish it didn't have the paper loss and it wasn't an x-out, but I am glad to add a FASC 1987 FB rack box to my collection. image

Add on #'s 2 & 3. Super stoked to add a couple 2nd year Montana packs to my Joe Montana/80's 49ers showing on packs collection. These were straight off the website.

Add on #4. This is technically less of an add on and more of a stowaway as I had already secured this box prior to the group break and just waited to have everything shipped together. Did I mention I love 80's FB rack boxes. Couldn't be happier with this super clean box.

Finally Add on #5. This was the big one for me. It was worth the wait. I have been after a Dr. J RC for a while. I wish it didn't have the white spot by his elbow, but Steve gave me a very nice deal on it that I couldn't pass up. If I have a chance to get one without the white dot in the future I will, but in the meantime, I think it's better to have this one than none in my collection. Next up, a Bird/Magic/Erving, Lew Alcindor RC or Bill Russell RC. Thanks for looking.

That Dr. J RC is fantastic. Vibrant colors and nice centering. Really like that card and think he should be considered for the Mt. Rushmore of basketball. He was the original showtime of professional basketball.

Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Nice pick ups Steve. I think I still have an ungraded Dr J rookie but is nowhere near that quality.

Jim, Craig44, JBrules, Doug, Bob, Tangalang, James and Fred--Thanks guys for all the nice words. I am super excited for everything in the box. I have been slowly adding to my HOF RC collection for generationally transcendent basketball players, so I am especially stoked at finally getting my PSA 9 Dr. J RC.

Stingray--Yes, all the group case break boxes were very clean. I am guessing you are asking about the X-out 87 FB rack box. It was not advertised as an X-out because it was actually in a sealed case that was on the BBCE website. Apparently the case was not marked by Topps as final sale so Steve did not know they would be X-outs until opening the case. I had asked Steve to open the case and split the case with a couple other guys with the boxes to be labeled FASC. When Steve opened the case and discovered they were X-outs, he emailed me and asked me if I wanted to back out of the purchase because they were X-outs. He also told me I could return the box after I received it if I wasn't happy. As usual I am happy with Steve being willing to stand behind his product. In this case, I felt that because I asked him to open the case that I did not think it would be right for me to return the box because it happened to be an X-out. While I wish it was a non X-out, that is how it goes. For the record, neither of the guys who took part in the break requested out of the deal either.

flcardtrader--Yes, Christmas in November! or Festivusimage

dberk12--Thanks on the Dr. J. I am very happy with it. I agree with you that Dr. J is sort of the forgotten legend now. He was absolutely huge at one point as the face of basketball (as proof, IIRC he even appeared on Growing Pains!). He is another great that unfortunately been lost in the considerable shadow that MJ has cast on basketball history. I agree Dr. J RC would be on my short list for consideration on the basketball card Rushmore. I do think though, that he would narrowly miss my cut. Definitely top 10 card all time, just not top 4 IMO.

Jeremy--Yes, any minor disappointment I had with the 87 rack box was quickly and utterly erased when I saw the breathtaking sharpness of the 81 FB rack box. It is absolutely beautiful and moves to the top of my unopened FB box collection (wax, cello or rack).

seebelow--LOL, I have great patienceimage Also, it is a quirk for me, like Costanza not wanting to pay for parking (or the other thing) because he could get it for free if he just worked a little for it, I hate to pay separate shipping costs when I could otherwise combine them. I know, when we're talking about $20 for a $1k+ box, it seems silly but it's just how my brain is wiredimage I would rather wait and use the extra $20 on sports icon cardboard than corrugated shipping cardboard.

This made me laugh. Totally agree.
