Lifetime subscription of Beckett Priceguide.....or myth?

Someones selling his Becketts, every issue since #1 on up....And, no, I don't know him in any way. Or ever done business with him etc.
Anyways, got me thinking..I seem to recall in the mid to late 80's there was a lifetime subscription price. It was like 2000 or $5000 as a one time upfront payment that got you one monthly price guide copy for the rest of your life. Def was Beckett not SCD. Can anyone confirm my delusion? How much?

Interested in higher grade vintage cards. Aren't we all.

thought someone would recall or know someone on staff at that time. i only read that and maybe scd at that time.
Side note, but can't help the mental association with "book value"--quite possibly the single stupidest thing in the hobby.
I'll give you half of "book value" for that card.??
....I recall pete rose would be on both lists in the same month...
...a guy on BST forum tells me he got a lifetime subscription to Tuf Stuff in the 80s.....maybe I'm thinking of that one for the scrip....wish i had my old beckets...id scan the editorial page
