Bbce giant unopened purchase

I see on the Facebook page that bbce has purchased the burbank modern unopened collection. 1987-2012. They said 22,000 unopened boxes and factory sets, 250 sealed cases. Sounds like if you like junk wax or modern that Rick has an awful pile coming in soon.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • From the BBCE Facebook page:

When Rob Veres of Burbank Sportscards - without a doubt the largest sportscards singles dealer in the hobby - decided he needed clear out his unopened inventory to make space in his warehouse, he called his old buddy Reed Kasaoka at Baseball Card Exchange. After two days of cataloging the entire collection and almost two weeks of non-stop pricing, BBCE reached an agreement today to buy one of the largest inventories of modern unopened in the hobby! Next Monday, Reed will be traveling to Southern California with his co-workers Rick and Brett, where for the next few weeks, he'll try to figure out how to get it all back to the BBCE offices, and just maybe pickup several other deals out there too.

Just how impressive is this deal? This collection covers the four major sports from 1987-2012, and we're not ashamed to say that for those years, this inventory is larger than ours - and that's saying a lot. It really is that good! Here's the tale of the tape:

    - 22,000 unopened boxes and factory sets

    - 250 factory sealed cases

    - 1,800 different items (the most impressive stat!)

    - 35-40 pallets worth of cards (1 1/2 semi trailers!)

Looking for 81-84 Topps Stickers in PSA 9 or better, 81 Topps Scratch offs, 83 Topps Fold outs in PSA 8 or better, 83 Fleer Stamps and 81/86 Fleer Star Stickers in PSA 9 or better.

Just in time for Black Friday BBCE Sale.
Kiss me once, shame on you.
    Kiss me twice.....let's party.
  • Is BBCE selling that much modern unopened, I would think there would be very low demand for about 90% of it.

I've seen them selling quite a bit on eBay auctions, which leads me to believe they don't sell a lot of modern on their website.
  • Nothing bad about inventory. It's what they do. Their warehouse may need its own zip code.
  • I thought business's don't want inventory just sitting. Keep it moving, turning over.
  • Um, yeah. But, to move inventory, you need to have inventory.

It is a little different comparing a business which is turning over new inventory over and over versus a business that specializes in inventory that is no longer being produced. Even if it is modern junk that seems to be popping up everywhere, eventually even that modern junk will one day dry up. That one day may be 200 years from now but it will happen one day.

  • Some of BBCE's stuff isn't even on the website. I bought several boxes of junk wax from them on EBay and went to buy more from the store and it wasn't there. They said just shoot an email with what you're looking for and they will see if they have it. Lots of avenues to sell. Gotta keep your eyes peeled to see where they move it all.

I've bought plenty of junk wax from Burbank. It's' all in nice shape and has been well stored. Quite a bit of it was factory bought. Burbank Sportscards has been open since then.

Whatever happened to those cases of 82 Topps Traded? I never saw them on the website.

Reed said on FB that the 82 TT cases and the 100 or so sets they had never made it to the website.

I'm surprised Burbank sold out to BBCE....which you would expect to be near wholesale prices. I have made them offers on wax boxes in the past and they typically showed little interest in budging much on their price.

Maybe Burbank needed the cash more than they needed the space.

    BBCE unopened auctions

I think they have two ebay accounts as well.
  • They may have a case or two but Steve can validate that assumption himself. That would've been cool to break a case of those and having them labeled FASC! You never know though...we may get that...maybe.

I happened to stop by Burbank a couple of weeks ago to get a couple of inserts I needed. I mentioned to Rob this was my first time in the store and he took me on a tour of their operation. Very impressive.

Afterwards he mentioned to me that he was getting out of the box and case business because it is just too competitive and his singles business was growing so fast that he needed the space. I did see cases stacked in the back as if there were about to go somewhere. I guess they ended up at BBCE.

I just did a couple of big orders from Steve to get caught up on something (such as getting 2004-14 Topps baseball factory sets to get my Topps set run caught up among other items). I know unopened boxes/packs seem to be his claim to fame but don't overlook his sets! Maybe I'll do football factor sets from 2001 onward if the price is right (I'd rather do 1974-79 though...)
