Does this Jordan RC have a shot at PSA 9? Grade Received

Update: Sold and buyer sent to PSA, just popped 8.5, thought you guys would be interested to know.

Trying decide if I should sell in the PSA 8 range (have some offers) or send in? Top left corner only issue I can see.

Thanks for your feedback.

That is a very nice looking card. I do think the top left corner makes it hard to get a 9. Also, I would look hard at that corner to make sure it has not been touched up as it is strange for cards from this set to have a corner not come to a tip and not show some white. Great looking 8 or 8.5 if that is what it ends up grading. A 9 is certainly in the realm of possibility but I would go in expecting the probability of an 8 or 8.5.

<< <i>This is not NM-MT either. It is likely OC and/or at a minimum MK so maybe NM pricing if you're lucky or EX-MT+. Grading removes the incentive to list / exaggerate an unlikely result. >>

Gretzky Centering measures 65/35 w/ JRuler, so within 8 standards. Why do you say MK?

<< <i>PD not MK but it's obvious and calling it NM-MT is not something I would be comfortable doing...likely tarnishing my reputation. >>

Changing listing to NRMT. Thanks for your feedback.

I do not think the Jordan has a shot at a "9" with that top left corner. Still a nice looking card.

  • If you have offers in the PSA 8 pricing range for the Jordan, take them.

I agree with David that it would not grade a 9. I think on the best day it would get an 8, most days it would get a 7. The upper left corner does not just have light wear where there is some white showing, it has more of a corner bump which will most likely downgrade it to a 7.

If you have offers for anything close to PSA 8 pricing, I'd accept it.

PSA 6.5-7..possibly altered. Card took a significant ding to that corner. Red seems to bleed around the top corner.

Might get that Gretzky in a PSA 6 holder without a qualifier. No idea with Jordan, nice cards!

Nice card but this one will not make a 9 with that upper left corner. Might be a 7.5/8 because of it so take the money if it is being offered.

No way. Top left corner is way too rounded. That's an 8 on a good day.
  • 8 Yes, 9 No

Going to be much easier to sell once theyre graded. I dont thin anyone would pay a PSA 8 price for an ungraded Jordan that might only grade as high as an 8. I think if you got offered PSA 7 money for it, you should take it

I think the top left corner makes it an unbelievably strong 6

Chances of Mj getting a 9 are zero. Chances of an 8 are low, I think it's probably a 7. Too bad because it's mostly that one corner.

i think that Gretzky is probably a 6, maybe it grabs a 7 on a good day but as others noted it's OC and has the print issues so no qual probably puts it at a 6.

Nice raw cards, but if you're asking near the equivalent of the grades they're likely to get I'd be surprised if you got much interest. If I were you, I'd just send them in myself and go from there - much easier to sell/negotiate once they're in a holder.

If you do have PSA 8 like offers on the MJ, you should take it immediately.

Brian, no disrespect to your Jordan as its a solid card but to echo what others have already said, it's not a 9 nor is it even an 8. If the top left corner looked like the other three you would have an easy 8.

And if you submit it and get an 8 I will resubmit my two 8's that I submitted back in 06 prior to half grades--pulled them from packs 29 years ago from a box I bought for $16.50 back in November of 86--ah the good old days!image

Congrats. Pretty awesome to land the 8.5.

So who bought and subbed it? You'd probably prefer to keep that private.

But, I will chew foot now. Num num num num..... image

Wow - 8.5 is a score on that card, maybe that corner isn't actually as bad as it originally looked in the scan

Good work on the sub for that buyer

Sorry no scan. Grade just popped and not sure that current owner will scan or is reading this thread, I just asked him if I could let you guys know what it graded.

    then it does not exist.

not saying it didn't, but you have the burden of proof, counselor.

Wouldn't you get the card back before sending it to him? I don't know many that would mind sharing a scan of a MJ 8.5...maybe not a 52 mick maaaybe...but can't really think of a reason to not show a scan....you can cover up the serial number....

My reason is education...I really would like to see a 8.5 with that corner....it would be a rarity....86 MJs is one area that I follow

That said, Congrats! I can't see that card getting a better grade. And in getting buyer for it.
Interested in higher grade vintage cards. Aren't we all. image
  • He sold the card raw, as was suggested earlier in this thread. Hopefully, he got close to PSA 8 money for it and the .5 upgrade doesn't really boost the value all that much. The person who purchased it from Counselor subbed it and got the 8.5, however, the identity of that person remains a mystery up to now.

This should offer clarity to anyone who can't figure it out.

The buyer sent the card, I don't have it. I just asked him to tell me grade after I sold it

Exactly right. I got 8 money and after factoring shippin and grading costs plus risk of lower grade I have no regrets at all.

I think sometimes when it's our cards we're submitting it's always the G.O.D. when the grades come in and when we grade others' cards, we become the G.O.D. LOL..
