Another newp -- I'm on a roll

I have been on hiatus for quite some time, but in the past month or so have been coming across coins that merited further attention. It's odd sometimes how acquisitions come in waves.
I won this nice German Mark in the Heritage Weekly World auction last night. I found out after I won it, that it had CoinFacts (TrueView) images. These are the PCGS CoinFacts images edited to my template and with the label from the Heritage pictures. I have been holding out for about 3 years for an example of this type, and this one finally got my attention. There are several dates in the series that come in VERY high grades, but I don't think I will find one to surpass this one on eye appeal plus condition anytime soon.
Have a good weekend everyone, Brandon

As always I see we have very similar tastes. Here's my example which I picked up sometime last year. Incidentally it is the same date
The original photo was better but I had to compress it because this forum allows only 50kb size photos or smaller
edit: having issues with the uploader on safari. Will try later on other computer
Congratulations.
I personally prefer the photos taken by Heritage. The Trueview pictures are too dark and over emphasize the color. I like the stronger suggestion of mint luster, and less of toning. Trueview did this on a few of my toners, and it still bugs me.
I have a few MS67s and a handful of MS66s of different dates and mint marks in this series, and it kind of scared me away from bidding on an MS68. I just can't find consistent differences between the grades, and I'd be afraid a 68 wouldn't be any better than my 67s, despite the premium. Factors like die state are becoming more influential in my bidding on these. I don't want to discourage you though. I think you picked a good 68 to bid on, because that coin is killer and eye appeal alone could justify that higher price.

Edited to add- too bad its not a 1911J or 1912J
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
<< <i>I remember watching that coin. It's a hot one. Nice strike. Good rims. Clean fields. Great, radially symmetric toning. It's definitely a 'one and done' type coin.

Neil, I agree with you regarding the PCGS photos. I got the coin yesterday, and below are my photos. It drives me a bit crazy how PCGS photographs coins. Firstly, the color is always red-shifted. I mean always -- I have dozens of coins that have PCGS photos, and they are consistently "pink" compared to the coin in hand. Secondly, I'm not a fan of how they tilt coins into the light to make them "pop" but completely kill luster and (on many proofs) cameo effect. Don't get me wrong, my pictures aren't perfect -- but at least the color is accurate!
Thanks for the kind words on this coin. I'm okay having paid 2-3 times the coins likely value in this grade, as the eye appeal means I won't have to find another to replace it -- as you say "one and done"!
Best, Brandon
