<< <i>So they graded it themselves and are now selling it? >>
In truth, BBCE only authenticates for PSA. He doesn't give them the numerical grade.
Although I think you are taking issue with the fact that he is selling something that he authenticated. >>
Which is the same as all the other unopened on his site. What business sense would it make to sell stuff he didn't believe was authentic? >>
Let's be honest: it isn't mentioned much because we all trust that Steve is honest. But it is a conflict of interest that he is both an authenticator and a dealer of unopened material. In theory, there are a lot of bad things he could do that this arrangement would facilitate.
Now that I think about it, I believe Steve stated at some point that he does not directly submit packs to PSA to be graded. If that is the case, the conflict of interest is greatly reduced.

You can say it is, but you'd have to say the same thing about all PSA graders/authenticators... and even moreso them, because Steve has no say in the number grade assigned (which can really drive value). That's why PSA is considered the leader of this industry... we trust them to hire quality "experts" and to handle any issues that may arise accordingly. I truly think the only conflict of interest would exist if BBCE is sending in packs for grading themselves. If these are being bought from auctions or purchased as part of a collection, then I don't really see any conflict... but that's just my opinion.

I agree. Without self-submitting, a third party would have to be involved for any shenanigans to be possible. And with third party involvement, improper activity would be possible whether he was a dealer or not.
I want to make sure that my post is not viewed in any way as questioning of Steve or BBCE. I know that he does (and has) stood behind his product. I have and will continue to buy with confidence from BBCE.
as far as steve , this has been discussed at nauseam before, I am sure a search can yield some solid reasons why this is the only way it can be otherwise steve wouldn't do it. the authenticating for psa is such a small part of his revenue , there is no way he would give up his business to authenticate for psa if that was required
<< <i>pack is already gone , what was it listed for?

Oh shoot I guess you do really never see a '57 pack for sale. I need one for my collection.... not sure I would spend $15,000 for it but based upon how fast it went it looks like that was a good price.
according to population report...psa has graded 6 of these packs,..this grade was the lowest...two were graded 8 as the highest. too bad gai never had a population report.

I didn't assume they would, just making a comment about what I felt an appropriate value would be. The value of the pack has to, or at least should be, derived from the probability of the value of what's inside, in my opinion.
<< <i>this is just a guess--but I do not think the fortunate buyer will be ripping that pack >>
The '57 pack will never be opened. Not so sure on the AA cello. While it is quite the price--If this cello eminates from the same source as those at the 2013 Natty--many hi grade cards may be in there. I recall the source of the cellos--can't recall his name but he had/has several hi grade registry AA sets--opened a number of them and got staggering results. Prior threads here I believe
Also recall when Mark Murphy was selling them for $1,000. Sure missed out on that one!

Steve only authenticates, PSA grades.

That '55 AA cello is way over priced IMHO, but if someone is willing to pay that then maybe not.
