Ripping Reward (72OPC & 75 Mini)

I've spent the last 8 weeks prepping for the last 4 days at work. It was a huge opportunity for me to stake my claim to advancement, and it went awesome.

I'd been planning to rip these at the AS Break, but they've become my reward for a job well done and will be ripped between today and tomorrow. Plus, if I luck into anything, I still have time to add to my April sub.

Any suggestions on what should be the opening act and what should be the headliner?

Gotta admit I'm a little apprehensive about the 72 OPC gum. Pretty sure at least one card is ruined. Otherwise it's the hands down headliner.

Thoughts?

Now if I can just have a little Phillip or Chris luck.

Normally I'd say the 1975 should be the appetizer but if the 1972 has some potential issues, then you should open that first!

    Edit to add: Good luck!!

Congrats on all working out well with work! I'd go with 75 mini first.

OK...I think I'm gonna lead with the 75. Having never ripped a 72, it's gotta be the headliner.

Hopefully only one card is affected by gum.

Well...if I'm looking for something nice to say...they all have sharp corners.

Glad I started with the 75. Gonna hold off on the 72 until Beer:30

Rough pack with typical mini centering, but the Lyle card does look very nice..

Good luck, Jim, and thanks for sharing!

Getting antsy. Hopping on the bottle early today.

Will start 72 shortly but likely doing a card at a time to try and stretch out my anticipation.

Well that was quick. Seriously, I can't help but laugh. I knew going in that I was likely to give up 2 cards from gum leach, and that this result was a possibility...but damn. 7 of the 8 are stuck pretty firmly together, and while Cito escaped the group, he still suffered the stain.

Catfish was MC but cards would have been pretty solid otherwise as far as centering. Will post after I get them apart.

Looks like I may need to grab another Mini.

At least it just ruined commons sans the Hunter. Guess that is a positive

    Man, that's too bad!

Typical for 1972 OPC wax. The gum used this year was brutal!

I've been there, Jim~really frustrating, but common with 72 OPC as gum was very sweet that year (a ghastly pink if not melted or disintegrated) and very large, too~we had that same issue years back when we broke a couple of 72 OPC boxes during group rips. I pulled a dead centered Roberto Clemente IA that had same fate as your Hunter.

Good luck with the second mini pack, if you decide to rip it!

Took a shot at another mini, only to feel the harsh burn of a starless pack again. Not quite the reward I was hoping for, but I still got a kick out of it. Pretty comical overall. Time to find a modern box for tonite. Thinking 08 Goudey. Won't be anywhere near the rush, but will last a bit longer. Cheers.

Jim, sorry about your luck. That is usually what happens when I rip packs. Thank you for sharing. BTW, Tim is right: the Lyle looks great.

    Ouch, on the 72 OPC.

In this case, the cat is dead.

Perhaps CPAMike is on to something.

Scratch that thought....these rips make for great threads. Rip away.

Of course, two weeks ago, the cat was most definitely alive for pjb103183.

    Better luck next time!

So true. Truth is, the packs cost as much as the Goudey box I just ripped, and it's hard to say the results vary that much. Texiera jersey, and Kelly Johnson auto. Some cool inserts, a Doby mini /34 and a Scherzer RC. It's all scratchers to a degree. But I'm happy to pay for the pleasure of the pull, when they come.

Got A Bruce Jenner Sports Royalty card which was timely given his interview tonite.

    Til next time.

Jim ... thanks for sharing. It probably would not have mattered because of the stains on the 72s, but if you ever have cards that are stuck together, put them in the freezer overnight and in the morning they should separate quite easily. Better luck next time.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Whenever I hear his name lately, the Lumberjack song pops into my head.

I am annoyed with ABC News as they have used both GMA and the Nightly News to have "news" segments, in addition to the actual promos, pretty much each night this week. I'm sorry, but Bruce Jenner wanting to become a chick is news if your name is "Us", "People" or the "National Enquirer".
