is this enough of a problem to ask for a ebay refund?

based on one of the threads here i bought a box of 1993 score select. i picked one of the stacks and started opening. ever card in every pack had a bad ding on the same corner. like the corner of the box had been banged hard at one time or anither. i stopped opening packs at that point. one of the packs i opened had the jeter, but badly dinged like all the others. is this enough to ask the sleller for a refund? or is it buyer beware?

I am interested to hear the consensus. For me, I don't know if this is buyer beware. It is not like the seller is selling tampered items. Unfortunately boxes get dropped and sometimes this can damage the cards within the packs. It is impossible to know that the seller knew that the damage was there. I would be inclined to chalk that up to bad luck. I would have a hard time asking a seller for a refund in this situation. But that's my opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide.

As soon as you opened the box and packs, it is officially your property and there should be no refund possible (unless they have been tampered with/resealed). This is only my opinion.

I agree with the other board members. If you received the box and saw that a corner of the box was damaged, then I think you have a good case to send back the box. But after you open the box and some of the packs, it's yours. Of course if the packs were resealed that would be a different story.

Just think how easy it would be if you could do what you are suggesting. The buyer would have no risk whatsoever when opening a box. Buy it ... open the packs ... if you don't do well just damage the box and ding the corners of the cards ... then send back for a full refund.

No. If you saw that the box was damaged before opening the packs, I would say you'd have cause for a return, but once you open the packs, all bets are off (unless the packs are tampered with). That is part of the risk of opening packs. You wouldn't expect a refund if all the cards were OC. And the seller shouldn't expect you to send him money if you pull a card that is worth a ton of money, either.

Lovely to look at, lovely to hold (unless you're curch), but once you rip it, it's marked sold.

Although...is it even the sellers fault?...the devils advocate...

I purchased 4 wax boxes from a reputable dealer. The packing box arrived with the entire side edge caved in, and the corner of the box crushed in. The 4 boxes were packaged into this cardboard box snug to very tight. Not double boxed. I mentioned, wrote this to the seller two separate times. Each time just played off and essentially denied responsibility.

They weren't thousand dollar boxes so not worth the time or hassle of pressing the issue. I was more interested to see how this company would respond. Disappointed.

I do think the seller in my case is responsible. In your case, once opened not much of a leg left to stand on.

Those boxes are only 30 or 35 bucks. Just toss it and buy another. They are fun to open. Especially, the green Score Select boxes.

I bought a box of topps 2015 ser 1 BB for my son. From a local dealer friend.

Soon we realized that every lower left corner had a small ding.

That had to come from topps.

We riped the box since he was just trying to make the set.

Personally I won't be happy if one of those cards later is the next 'Mickey Mantle' RC.

So good luck and just enjoy the cards

I agree with the consensus. If it has been opened, there should be no refund.

100% no.....how was the buyer to know the cards inside were damaged? If the box had damage, I think it would be reasonable to ask for one, so long as it wasnt clearly mentioned in the listing, but once cards were opened, you can no longer return the item in the condition it was sent to you. I had a similar situation on a box of Simpsons cards I sold about 6 months ago.....Box was mint, but buyer said when he opened the packs (ALL 24 OF THEM), that many of the card had dinged corners. He requested a refund, which I told him I would give if he returned the item in its original condition...never heard from him again
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
