Who was the whiny boy who claim he missed the HOF because he's a Republican?

I caught the comment on tv, but missed the name.

    That would be Shilling.

Biggest bunch of nonsense I've heard in a while. Just sour grapes. I have inside information that shows if he kept his mouth shut about his politics he would have only received 72% of the vote. He would still not be in.

It was indeed Schilling...caught his interview. Later said he was joking...really? Hate to see BS like this come from a "past tense" key Red Sox pitcher.

As Ted Williams would say Bush league.

Most of the media are liberals, so he is probably correct.

    1. Listened to it played multiple times (damn sportscaster reruns) and he wasnt joking.
    2. Said smoltz got in cuz he's democrat. Ummm he's def a republican. Has given the max contributions to republican candidates.

Smoltz took the high road and said schilling should be in.

Personally I think schilling should get in. During a slow year. But not showing much class with the sour grapes.

Ridiculous. Most of these guys are Republican. If they weren't when they started playing they became one when they starting making $10m a year.

For a guy who played with a bloody sock, he certainly likes to whine a lot.

I am very grateful for what Schilling did for the Red Sox, outside of that I think the guy has a big mouth and is kind of an idiot.

I'm pretty sure he missed the HOF because he only won 216 games in a 20 year career. I can't believe people are saying he belongs. He was great in the post season, but it just doesn't make up for a pretty average career. Never even won a single Cy Young award. Just doesn't belong.

He just may get in though because he did not take steriods and there are not many that did not.

3100 strikeouts, World series MVP, 3 Championships, and perhaps the best post season pitcher ever is a average career? I would put Schilling in over Smoltz.

So he was possibly the best post season pitcher and yet his regular season career was nothing to brag about in terms of the HOF other than 3,100 strikeouts. Smoltz also struck out 3,000 batters and was a starter and reliever. Sorry, but he doesn't belong. Anyone can get hot in the post season. Many no names have done it. He got there because of his team and not just him. I'll just say he was a little better than average to please the supporters, but not HOF material.

.....and that is the real crime of the steroid era, everyone is suspect.

HOF should probably have shut its doors in the late 90's. Open up a Hall of Slime down the block for the modern era hacks.

So you think finishing runner up in the cy young voting 3 times is NOT hof material??? I strongly disagree. Look up how many times Smoltz finished 2nd LOL.
