Updates on my unopened collection (Updated 6/26 picture and word heavy)

I have been having a hard time posting updates to my unopened collection. Due to lack of space, most of my unopened collection resides in shipping boxes in my son's closet. This is a partial update on what I've purchased over the last few months. I don't know how many boxes aren't pictured. Most of the boxes were purchased directly from BBCE or from board members here--shout out to CPAMike, Orioles93, Esquiresports, JFKHeat, and BPorter (sorry if I missed anyone).
The cello boxes are a run of 1978 thru 1980 (not pictured is a second 79 cello box I couldn't find--I need to find a better way to label the boxes my unopened boxes are housed in). Very excited to add the 77 Topps Cloth Stickers box (thanks James). I bought a box of 2012 Topps Archives for my son to open for Xmas and the 77 Cloth Stickers was an insert in that set. I had never seen them before and I thought they were really cool so I have been wanting to add this to the collection ever since. The rack packs are 8 1981 Topps FB racks I bought from Steve a little while ago (one of them had a Largent on top) In the back are 4 86 Topps Baseball boxes and 2 89 Topps Hockey boxes. I am not above adding some junk wax if the price is right (I won both of those in separate eBay auctions from BBCE). The 83 and 85 FB boxes were from my existing collection. They were just sent in to be authenticated by Steve so I could complete my 1980's BBCE FB wax run (1981 thru 1986).
I took part in the BBCE vending binge a few months ago. One of the reasons I think vending isn't super popular is because you can't really tell them apart like you can with wax boxes. Anyway, in the mix I believe are 2 79's, 2 81's, 2 82's, 3 83's and 3 84's. Is it bad I'm not sure that's what's there (except for the 2 79's, I am sure of that). Looking back I wish I would have picked up a 1980 or two. That's what I get for trying to keep to a budget.
Thanks for looking. One of these days I will get out all the boxes for a complete look at the current collection.

That 1977 Topps Cloth box is pretty cool.
What collecting goals do you have for this part of your collection (i.e. one wax & cello box from each sport from 1970-1990)?

Thanks Snorto. Yes, I really like the look of the 77 Cloth box. I am having to slowly add items at this point given where the market is for 70's material. I may take a break and see if prices come down a little over time. I have been lucky to find deals from members here and sellers on eBay for legit unopened boxes that I have sent for authentication to Steve. This has saved me money on the premium that already BBCE wrapped 70's boxes command. Of the 70's wax or cello boxes I have, only one was bought at full retail (the 78 cello) because it was already wrapped. I will slowly add as my budget allows working backwards. I would love to have full unopened wax boxes and cello boxes going backwards to the 70's, but again the cost may be prohibitive. It may be time to work on some graded singles and take a break from unopened. That said these are the runs I have currently:
Baseball Wax (Topps) 1979-1986 all BBCE wrapped. I don't have to go any further in the 80's as we have already entered junk status with the 86's. I would like to go backwards and add a 78, then a 77 or 76. I just can't pay $2k for a 78 box. I think I will add a mini box soon as I think those are still reasonably valued.
Baseball Cello (Topps) 1978-1981, 1984 I didn't even mean to start a cello run. While I prefer the looks of the wax boxes, it has just been easier value wise to buy the cello boxes than the wax so I figured better to have some 70's unopened than none. I don't know if I will continue my run into the 80's. I could see myself filling in the 82 and 83 but I don't see myself wanting anything past 85 in the cellos. I will likely pause for now.
Baseball vending (Topps) what you see is what you get. I have 79, 81-84. I wish I would have jumped on one 80 box to complete the run. That's what I get for trying to save money/stay in budget. I am not a huge vending fan, so I will be unlikely to add any unless it is for a great deal.
Football Wax (Topps) These are my favorite unopened boxes. Even more than the baseball. I currently have 81-86 all BBCE wrapped. I am looking to add 1980 and to go back into the 70's for my football run. I would even add a 1987 BBCE box as I think those boxes have some value. I already have 2 87 and 3 88 FB wax boxes, they are just not sealed by BBCE.
The present values of unopened leave me largely on the sidelines for the older material. Which is fine. If prices correct at some point than I will add more. Otherwise I will focus on other parts of my collection (finishing my 61 Fleer Basketball registry set and graded HOF RC's in all sports and modern stars like Lebron, Durant, Anthony Davis and Andrew Luck).
I think late 70's have been fairly stable lately if you can find good quality...good luck and again, great work.
I'm planning to ease slightly into baseball but every time I got anything good, I open it.
best,
Steven
Moving forward, keep 80T FB in mind. The boxes are still relatively inexpensive, yet they are becoming increasingly difficult to track down. Only a matter of time before things start to get silly there as well, imo.
As always, thanks for sharing!

Awesome collection. I have a special place in my heart for 77 Topps cloth. My first two true un-opened packs are those. I bought in the early 80's and still have today (two packs). I saw the box Steve had on his site and was going to buy but it had already sold. Good luck with your collection.

jmsodpc--Actually, I am a big fan of rack boxes. I wish that I had more rack boxes that were from FASC, unfortunately most of mine are wrapped but not FASC. I have added a lot of FB rack boxes to the collection since the original thread.
Dustin--The 1980 Topps BK box is safely set aside. It is my favorite unopened box currently in my collection. I believe I posted this thread before I got that box
NJ80sBBC--Unfortunately, I do not have any room to display any of my collection. As some guys on here know, my unopened collection presently resides in shipping boxes in my son's closet. I am definitely not a ripper One of the nice things about wrapped boxes is that it greatly reduces the temptation to rip. I do plan on opening a few loose packs before I move though.
<< <i> in order to try and stay within a budget. I am moving at the end of the month. I am traveling now, but when I get back to WA I will get everything out and post an update. To answer some of the questions: >>
Hey there Steve
I'm looking forward to your update. Unopened has become one of the more popular collecting focus' here.
Also, budget. I set mine a bit lower than I can afford - well knowing I'll go over by a bit.
Here is a pic of the majority of boxes I have left at the moment.

<< <i>Very impressive collection. Thank you for the kind words. I've never been anyone's hero If you run out of room on the truck I know someone that will take very good care of the boxes.

James, thanks for thinking of me, but it looks like most of Steve's baseball has been wiped out for now.
Awesome seeing everything laid out Steve. Very, very nice.

<< <i>My favorite 80's unopened is football, so it is what I have kept the most of. I still have my full run of 80's Topps Wax Boxes and as budget allows I am building out my cello and rack runs. Right now I have 1981, 1983, 1987 and 1988 Cello boxes as well as 1981 (not pictured), 1982, 1986, 1987 and 1988 rack boxes. I would love to have the full run of wax and cello in non X-outs like my hero James but I will have to wait and look to fill the gaps when I get back to CA.

Whoa!! Awesome! Just for the record, you do realize 80's Football is all junk. You should consider a fire sale!
Maybe $.10 on the dollar. I would be happy to handle that for you
J/K, man, what an awesome collection!
