    My Wantlist/Tradelist is here
  • Just some suggestions
People tend to like these are a combination of these:
    1. Limited edition
    2. Game Used of 2 or more items from a single player or multiple players on one card. They also like acetate cards.
    3. Don't use redemption
    4. Have Accetate cards people tend to like the EX type
    5. Have a multiple color game used set
    6. Box Toppers of good cards always works also
    7. If you do redemption. Use it for something cool like you have just won a pair of tickets to a team of your choice, but limit the tickets to a certain price, certain seat, and certain date. I bet this would be very popular. This maybe a stretch but offer locker room passes.
    8. Try to have each box have something good in them, this will detract from people not buying your boxes because they keep on getting crap in there.
    9. Try to make the cards rare and cool as possible.
    10. How about jerseys through the years series try to obtain high school, college, pro jerseys and try to put them on one card that would be pretty cool
    11. Try to get Auto on board he has some sweet cards he designed for fun!!!

  • Here are 5 ways to get customeres to purcahse your packs

    1. put a lot of good stars in every pack.

    2. put Game-Used or Autograph cards in 1 out of every 10 packs.

    3. sale the packs at a very good price.

    4. make the cards look very cool.

    5. put a redemption card for a sports video game 1 out of every 350 packs.

    I holp that helps.

Just curious, don't you need to be licensed by the sport (eg. NBA, NFL, MLB) to have rights to produce cards of the players?

In any case, it will take a lot of dough to get the product started and be competetive. I wish you the best of luck!

  • Here are some I liked I think a few were already mentioned:
Make good packs not just a bunch of crap or a1 cheap insert in each pack

Have a box topper card or a special object in a box like they had the canvas autos in 1 or the giant cards

I personally like die cut cards, i don't see much anymore but I liked those

I also like see through cards and #'d cards

    and cards featuring multiple players

One of the most basic things is to have great pictures of the players so try something new like having a set with pictures looking down on the player from like a birds eye view or something like that.

Have lots of cool looking inserts, rcs, game used, and autos.

I think it'd be pretty cool to start a card company you just have to have a lot of the green stuff and good marketing. --Chris. Good luck
  • yeah people like the cards with 2 or more items on it or mutli players and multi colors.
Like Chris Said have a Box Topper Per Box or Have a Graded Rc or Something Like that in the box.
hope you the best of luck.

  • Best Idea better odds than upper deck etc.
No one likes warm-ups cards, they want actual game stuff played in the game. Make some cool inserts, and rookies. Auto or get a great designer to help with designs. Also sell the packs for less at the start. Put star players only, and other packs labeled for vetrean players. Hire a professional web site designer, and get some sponsers, Commercials, Advertisements. Make the cards original. Give out free stuff, people always like that. If you have to have redemptions make the dates with in a reasonable time period. Your talking like 50 million project if not more. Athletes, cards, workers, copyrights, etc. whew. This would be very hard to do, wish you good luck, if you need any help just let me know!

  • Either make autos and/or GU very EASY or very HARD to get out of packs (not like 1-2/box). Make limited quantities and have all RCs, inserts, autos, and GU #d.

Make GU #d 1st, last, or jersey # have patch; make autos #d same a different color (to set them apart even more).

If you don't want to do the different variations, maybe you could make the 1st, last, and jersey #s of autos and GU cards be auto/GU cards (combination of both).

Say if UD makes 1 million cases (example) and Pacific makes 10, make about 200,000 (something VERY limited).

Have it arranged where you can have redemption cards inserted into packs where the winner can receive 2 tickets to particular games, playoffs, or even a WS game.

Or, have it so someone who receives a redemption card (almost impossible to get) is able to meet in person their favorite player (off of an acceptible list).

Having auto help you design some of the cards would be an excellent idea.

Also, the thing that I believe would get many people to purchase your cards is if you happen to have a redemption for SGC 98/100, BGS 9.5/10, or PSA 10 of auto/GU RCs #d/10, 50, or 100 at the most. Have like the top 10 offensive players available for this (ex. Vick, Brees, Tomlinson, etc.).

If you have any other questions, please feel free to e-mail me (racefanhsd@earthlink.net). I'll be happy to suggest some other ideas if I come up with them.

Also, add about 10 multi-player GU and auto cards #d/50 of each.

Also, make the regular #d RCs VERY condition sensative.

    DON'T DO IT!
There enough garbage on the market now!!

But;if you are truly serious about this, then
    the best advice would be:
Put out only a very few products a year but make them very nice!
That's it! Look at Be a Player in Hockey for a model. They only put out 5 series a YEAR!! That's all ! Unlike all these other comapnies putting out 40-50 a year.Just our 2 cents!

  • i think cards with the entire game used patch would be cool, not just part of it. also, cards with the entire mlb logo, or the entire flag from the jerseys or hats. also, i think cards with a piece of almost all the equipment would be cool, like a game used glove, jersey, pants, hat, shoes, etc. all on one card. also, i like dual autos, such as the stadium club co-signers. hope that helps

  • Nice dream, but MLB licensing fees are going to crush you. Do you have any idea just how much they cost? I looked into this several years ago (early 90's). Believe me, you'll want to think twice. Besides, aren't there already too many cards on the market today? Two weeks after issue, the stuff plummets. Getting dealer and distributor acceptance is also going to be tough.

Mostly problems that can be easily overcome, but the MLB money is going to be the b*ll buster. They require payment upfront

BTW, if you decide to go public, I have a clean shell you can reverse merge into.

  • Dude. Go for some really cool GU things. Like GU souls of shoes or GU headband/wristband or GU towel. I like the idea of locker room redemptin passes. People like GU #ed cards. Make old players like Kareem or Ruth or Montana. Don't make boxes over $100 a piece. Put 30 packs in each hobby box. With 2 GU every fifteen packs. Highschool player cards that are sweet would be pretty cool too. Especially GU. Dont be like SP Authentics and put nuttin but crap in the boxes. Good luck dude.
  • be unique... make puzzle cards or something... like 10 puzzle cards = a team poster/set. That'd be cool i think. make up something & ask us here on the board what we think of it. i could think of numerous things I'D ilike to see be too many to even start typing.

    Good Luck,
    Kevin
  • Also. NO NONAMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People hate people that play 2 minutes a season.
  • Has your 150 million dollar loan been approved? Have the press machines you ordered arrived yet? Has MLB,NFL,NBA,NHL responded for you request for licensing? Have you got your agreement completed with the player associations? Have you contacted your cellophane/packaging distributor & placed an order? Warehouse & staff ready? Oh don't worry about a few of the things I just mentioned yet because it usually takes 2-3 years & a few million dollars for the licensing to come through. I do look forward to your debut product in 2006 though.

  • i agree 100% with jsa! but if you are serious, and want to risk what you've got, GO FOR IT! id definetly buy some stuff from you! and post ur new stuff in beckett, and tuff stuff, etc to attract more business. also stick to the regular stuff, like they used to have, not this gu crap inserted into every pack, and autos in every packs. its ruining the hobby! and i like the idea of having auto design some stuff for ya, and hell if i get a cut, ill do some designing etc too image also, is there anyway you could buy your way into an already known company and then after a few years split and form your own? this would give ppl a chance to see some of ur stuff before you start your own business, and will get ur name out there.

Hopefully i get the best idea image, i need the $20, lol! GOOD LUCK
  • thats a great idea, but will take a lot of time. Also you have to have ppl that can take the pictures for you, cards are nothing without the pics. I a HS student and im taking photagraphy so by the time you actually get everything worked out i can help out with some of the pictures. New York is a great photo city and just yesterday near my school, Jalen Rose from the Pacers was walking around taking pics and stuff. GOOD LUCK

I like the acetate cards. I don't like cards of players in anything other then pro jerseys. Maybe you could have something like buy so many cards and you can send in X amount of cards for a new pack. That way you get happy customers. Also focus on players picked and design

  • I suggest when u put the cards in the packs u should put a wrapper redemption that way u can recycle the wrappers and get cash for the wrappers. You can give either limited cards, autos or GU for the people who send in the most wrappers in a certain period of time.

    Thanks

  • Ah,

It's nice to see that a couple of other folks have followed my lead in trying to inject a dose of reality to this topic.

150 MM is too high a figure, but you'll spend mid to high 6 figures in legal fees just negotiating licensing rights, and the legal eagles will also want a piece of the action.

I still have that Corp. shell available. Shake and bake SEC paperwork, I'll even hook you up with a couple of market makers, you'll be on the NASDAQ OTC board in 30 days and AMEX listing in 3-4 months.

  • I can tell him this for sure licenseing each player...ie. paying them to use thier image (which he will have to do) is gonna run $30,000 to $50,000 for no name players and for stars he better have deep pockets because if I remember the reports corectly UD payed MJ somewhere in the nieghborhood of $15,000,000 and Topps had to pay Shaq $5,000,000...Therefor he's gonna have to be a billionaire just to put out one set of cards...Cause even if he does'nt secure the rights and pay the players the lawsuits will run around the same amount...Thats not even counting the millions it'll cost him to use the NBA,NFL and MLB licenses...

Lol, I cant wait to see how this turns out..At least maybe when the lawsuits start pooring in he'll get a chaqnce to meet some bigtime sports stars when they're testifying against him...lmaoimage

  • HEY GUYS

    heres hakeem's idea:

    Date Posted: May/11/2002 7:35 AM
"If your serious about $20 for a good idea then howz this.
Have an INSERT set called FINGERPRINT STUDIOS. Each player has 5 serially numbered cards. Each one with the print of a finger. First the thumb then the next (you get the point) Each card will also be autographed. Undoubtly these cards would be very popular and fetch high values on the market. "

He had the best idea in my opinion, original and new.
