Are Puckett collectors a little more hardcore????

Over the past couple years, I've had a couple of particular collection pieces come up for auction that include Kirby Puckett. I do not specifically collect Puckett, he is merely in a set I collect. One particular offering was a blank back Puckett proof card that, to be fair, was pretty rare. It was snatched up (BIN) in no time for about $150.00. All the other player's proof cards weren't touched. Then, twice over the last year a Puckett autographed card related to my collection (non RC) has come up and went for $100-$110 (raw/no authentication).
Puckett certainly isn't going to be signing any new cards or memorabilia, but it seems Puckett collectors are pretty hardcore . I have a feeling one of my POP 1 Puckett PSA 10's of his could easily fetch $250 if I laid it out there.
Anyway, just wanted input from you guys if you think this is accurate or I'm just hallucinating![image](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif)

He had a pretty rabid bunch collecting him, at one time. He was the best player here in Minnesota for a long time and very popular until after he retired and some problems came up.
I am sure you are not hallucinating! LOL
Joe
I live in northeast Iowa and remember how big he was in his playing days. Younger deaths always have a way of creating more interest. As you said there still appears to be, at the least, a small group of people who will pay about anything for more rare items or autos of his. That just sucks for me, though!!!
I'm a little surprised with how collected he is after "the issues" after his retirement.
Thanks for telling me I'm not seein' things, hahaha

B-ball, yes, you are correct about the differences between autos/proofs and PSA 10's as well as other 10's coming onto the market. My collection is indeed a small, specialized set and not a lot are graded.

Again, my point is not to argue a particular price for PSA 10s in this set, but just to theorize that a POP 1 PSA 10 of Puckett would fetch a far higher price than a, say, POP 1 PSA 10 of McGwire, Clark, Clemens, etc. from this set just because of the actions of Puckett collectors.
I just checked some sold listings for the 1991 Fleer Football Pro Visions and saw this. I check everyday for these and never even saw it before it got sold.

<< <i>I agree that it only takes a couple rabid collectors to jack up prices, and that appeared to be the case on my most autographed item I tried to get of Puckett's. >>
Absolutely- it's just that there's a difference between collectors, and guys who are building PSA master sets. I'm sure there are quite a few serious collectors out there of Puckett memorabilia; as for serious collectors of Puckett PSA slabs, that's a smaller population.
WRT to the Bo Jackson, that's a pop 1 of a player who has generated a fair bit of PSA registry interest in the past few years. Other players have taken their turn as registry darlings (Yount, Blyleven, Murphy, etc.), and this appears to be a time when the light is shining on Bo.
Puckett autographs are definitely their own thing given his death.
Good discussion.

Overall, I am a collector and don't chase the Registry with a fever. If I can pick up a PSA 10 that I don't have at a decent price, I will. If not, I pass on it or submit my own raw cards.
Indeed a good discussion on this, thanks guys!

<< <i>I agree with both you guys' several points. The recent "Bo Phenomenon" is certainly attributable to the 30 for 30 series, imho. I can't imagine that card getting $200 two years ago....or even one year ago.

Agreed. I can remember when pop 1 Bo Jacksons were in the $30-$50 range, but they were nowhere close to $200 before the ESPN special.
I may need to contact CS to get it added in the Pop Rpt.
Thanks!
Miss you Kirby...
<< <i>This thread got me looking at my Kirby Kollections in the Registry. I noticed I have a couple PSA 9s with a pop of 1 and none higher. One of them, the 1990 Red Foley Sticker Hand-cut Kirby (#75) isn't showing in the Pop Report. Could someone point me to the Certificate number finder -- or whatever it's called?

Ooops! I just dug out my '90 Red Foley Puckett and it's not a single stamp but rather the panel with Jeff Reardon. It's a 1of1. Awesome!
Once I logged in I was able to find the Cert Verification link, too. When it came up I looked closer and noticed the panel variation...
My other PSA Pop 1 none higher is a '91 Star Diamond Series Promo card of Kirby. I bought that one on eBay on 1/21/07. The '90 Red Foley I picked up from eBay seller "rojik1" (anybody here use that seller ID?) on 7/17/09. Maybe I should put those two up for auction...
That's about right, I popped a handful of Pop 1-3 Puckett's a few months back and that's about what they brought if they sold. I think the top Puckett registry guys got out of the game. That doesn't mean there still aren't hardcore Puckett collectors out there, they just don't care about PSA 10s.
