Felinfoel: I've not seen a "smoothed" one in hand, but I suspect it means that the hit(s) from chop mark(s) have been smoothed over.

Cool story, TDN. I'd never spent that much for a coin in 1975, but if I'd had a chance to buy that 1875 for $1,240, I'd have gladly done so. Beautiful coin!
