Topps used same photo for Torre 1970 & 71

I just noticed that Topps used the same photo for the Joe Torre 1970 regular issue card #190 and cropped the same photo for his 1971 leaders card #62.
Are there other instances where Topps used the same photo of a player in 2 different years?

This has happened literally 100"s of time (particularly during that time period)
Successful dealings with Wcsportscards94558, EagleEyeKid, SamsGirl214, Volver, DwayneDrain, Oaksey25, Griffins, Cardfan07, Etc.
  • Not only would Topps use the same picture, but they would airbrush alot also.
If a player changed teams, and they did not have a photo of the player with the new team, they would just airbrush over the cap logo. You will see that quite often.

One of what I think is a great airbrush jobs is the 1957 Mantle. If you look closely, you can see another player swinging a bat behind Mantle.
  • Topps used the same Ted Williams photo for 1954 (#250), 1955, and 1956.

I believe you have a lot in 68 and 69 as well. Like IMF said ... there are MANY times Topps used the same picture for different years.

wasn't just Topps. Most T9's are the same image as T218's, and off the top of my head Babe's '33 Goudey #181 is the same as his '35 Goudey. I think there were overlaps in T206 and T3.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

Pretty much all the facial shots are identical in the 55 and 56 Topps sets

A recent post brought this ancient post to mind. It didn't get much traction but it does cover a few examples.

Topps used the same bubba smith photo in 1970, 71, 72 all pro, 1975 and 1976. they used a different photo for the regular 72, and used it again in 73. He had no card in 74. So he appeared on Topps cards 7 times but only two different photos were used.

Bill Davis. Topps used the same photo of him, Not once, but on two occasions. They reused his 1967 photo in 1968 and they reused his 1966 photo in 1969.

Also very interesting about Bill Davis, he was on a rookie stars card for 5 consecutive years (1965-1969).

As was said back in 2012, this was done hundreds of times.

Willie Mays is the same on '54, '55 and '56.
