So now I am really confused on pricing....

the 1871 2c in ms65RED says $700 for grey sheet and $8000 for PCGS, something doesn't appear right, anyone know which is the correct pricing.

    Greysheet states MS64 and higher bids are for Red/Brown coins. There is no bid for 65RD. I would guess that the PCGS Price Guide is closer to reality.

    What do the HA archives say?

    Commoncents is right, the grey sheet is for Red/Brown. The only bid currently on CCE for an MS65 RB is by Jack Beymer for $580. The PCGS price guide picks up the 1725 that was paid for an NGC RB example in December. There are a few other examples that have sold for $978 and $1150 . While the sheet is low on most copper, it is not nearly as off as you represent.

    Red is not relevant though, Greysheet is for RB

    only one sold 2 years ago for $8500 in ogh which could have triggered pcgs price guide, and same one sold last year for about $4800. I also see it as very streaky, not full red but then it is off a photo.


    In fact it sold in Aug 2010. And IMO, may not get in a Red holder today.

    A full Red, well struck 1871 MS65RD would likely be closer to the PCGS price than the HA price.
