So I'm browsing Ebay and see this BIN for under $60 shipped. Didn't really need it, but it looks nice with positive eye appeal, and that was good enough for me. What say you?

<< <i>Not bad for $60. But it has been dipped and now retoning. >>
Possibly. This type of toning is pretty common with this issue and doesn't scream dipped to me.
<< <i>Sorry, that's not positive eye appeal. >>
Thanks for setting me straight Oh mighty judge of eye appeal. I shall now slink into the corner with my negative eye appeal collection.

yes it is.

I disagree, I do not believe this has ever been dipped.
That appears to me to be original, properly colored Columbian toning in the crevices, while the toning in the fields has been wiped off with a thumb (intentionally or accidentally). That's why there's color in the letters and in the protected areas near Columbus' portrait, but none in the fields with that bright look. And I believe the thumbprint on the reverse, with toning remaining in the fingerprint ridges, proves the point. Some toning is very delicate and comes off at the slightest touch of a finger.
Pretty good for $60.

I'll third that. Nice coin! I think I agree with AJ, though, in that it might have been dipped (which IS an acceptable practice), So, my question is thus.......'in hand', does that look to be nicer than the grade? It looks like a nice, solid 63, maybe a bit too much chatter for a 64 (I like those small white ANACS holders...I've had good luck with upgrades from them). It's just too bad the 'dipper' left his print on the reverse!
Nice pickup, though!!!! (Wanna make 25% profit with a quick flip??? ). I just love the '92 and '93 Columbian Expo halvess.. I really gotta get me a PL example. And, let's not forget about the price....we've all seen MUCH worse examples go for MUCH more on TT just about every auction........ same everywhere else too, I'd guess.
Don't let the naysayer alter your perception of that coin......it's a nice pickup, and the consensus is going to agree that for what you paid, regardless of the dip, it's still well worth the short $$ you paid........
BUT it ISN'T in an old photo cert....whats up with that? lol They can't be drying up, can they? lol

Thanks,
Nothing new for the photo cert type set, but I do have my eye on a couple of certs that would be cool additions.
Forget what the other nay sayers tell ya!

You posted a coin and asked for opinions, so I gave you mine. Next time make it clear that you're only looking for opinions that agree with yours. Not everyone worships at the alter of badly toned, finger printed coins. And just because I don't like your coin, doesn't mean I don't like you. So don't take it personal.

It's not that I have a problem with your opinion.....Just your delivery. It's akin to when you asked about buying raw $5 Indians. Someone could've said" "Only an expert or an idiot would buy raw incuse Indians and you sir don't sound like an expert." There is truth in that statement, but the delivery is a bit harsh.

...that's what I'm supposed to say when I have no clue to ruin the excitement of someone's new purchase right?
But seriously I like the coin a lot
<< <i>Glad you like it, impulse buys often yield marginal results. Unfortunately, Ankur and GoldClause are correct. That would not cross at our hosts. >>
Why not?

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

Why do people say "sorry" in these situation? Are they, or could they actually give a ducks butt?--------------------BigE

So as not to appear too harsh, and avoid anyone taking it personally. Didn't work in this case though.
