Remembering Roberto. One more added........

Thank you Tommy for the sparkling 72 Clemente PSA 10. With that addition, I'm one step closer to filling all the gaps in my Clemente collection. I need 56 (not a fan of this card), 58 (has to be a nice one), 59, 60 (not fans of these either), 63 (gaping hole), and 71.

Enjoy. (The 61, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, and 73 were all raw purchases.)

UPDATE: I bought the '64 PSA 8 at the bottom at the National and it is a monster 8. Should be in a 8.5 holder IMO. If anyone has any that I need above and would like to trade for this card, LMK. Thanks!

  • Those are pretty sick, especially since you got 61 raw.
  • what's keeping the '73 out of a 9 holder? is that scratch on his neck on the slab, scanner bed or card?

damn the centering is fine on that one

Ron, that 57 is smoking. The rookie is plain sick. Nice collection of "The Great One". Always had a soft spot for Clemente. Have always been on the fence to dive in to collecting him like this. Also, you did well on the 1972.

  • Thanks for sharing the Clemente cards. If I was going to collect certain ball players cards Clemente would certainly be near the top of the list. Your 55 Clemente is amazing.

In terms of the cards I have, obviously the 10 is a 10, but the 64 PSA 9 is just a monster. Light rough cut on top, which I love, great color, great back. And the 57 is strong.

In terms of all his cards, I love the 63 & I love the 73.......such a haunting pose of him after his death......in the shadows.

I don't know why but the 1971 Topps is my favorite Clemente card. I used to own a sweet PSA 8 that easily would have bumped .5 but I since sold it.

Edit add: Nice collection thus far image

Excellent choices. He's one of the most photogenic of all the ballplayers on cards. Definitely an impressive collection!

Great job. Nice pick up on the 1972
For me a Mint 1965 would do it. Just love the colors on that set

RB, I had to look at these cards again and again. All I can say is DAMN those are fantastic. The rookie is one of the nicest I've seen. How is that not an 8? You have a great eye for raw cards.

I like your description of the 1973 card. He died it says in December of 1972.

Do you know why they printed and ran a card of him for the 1973 season? Another question I have is were collectors always hot on Clemente or has it picked up a lot more steam as more vintage collectors are going after high grade material?

Obviously those are some awesome cards and the 1972 is a tremendous addition. I love seeing perfect cards from nearly 40 years ago.

I am also slowly working on the Clemente basic collection. I have to tip my hat. those are blazers. I agree....why is the rc not an 8 ????

It is difficult ti find Clemete's in centered hi grade....and when u do they go 4 much higher than vcp for sure.

Is there anyone whom didn't appreciate and deeply respect the player and the man?

Clemente represents the very best of everything we expected of a Major League baseball player.

what's interesting is that as kids, very few of us pretended to be him.....most of us, in my generation, were Hank Aaron or Willie Mays at the plate and Drysdale or Gibson on the mound.

he wasn't brash or amazing, just consistently great.

i remember 40 years ago this week and carrying a transistor radio around with me at school so i could listen to bits and pieces of the playoffs during the time between classes they called "nutrition".....my buddies and i huddled around that radio while most of the other kids were playing handball or hopscotch, and we rooted for the Pirates.

i remember even long before that, my uncle hustled me down to Dodger Stadium for a game against the Pirates that got exciting late, so we arrived and walked in during the 7th inning for the pleasure of seeing extra innings and the first couple turns at bat i ever got to see Clemente take live.....my uncle made sure i knew that. image

my collection is still a neophyte work in progress.....RB, those cards are simply a pleasure to view.

yeah, i remember Roberto. i'll never, ever forget him.

    Jay0791,
I guess at 1 time time there were quite a few folks who did not appreciate his ability to get on the diamond through minor aches and pains. Missed alot of games he could have played in.

I too collect Clemente in "collector's grade" condition. While I was born more than 10 years after his death, I looked up to the sports heroes who were good men off of the field as well. Clemente was that guy for my 5 or 6 year old mind...I don't remember the exact year, but I remember my first Clemente piece was a Starting Line Up set featuring he and Stargell. Today, I add nice looking low grade whenever I can find it.

Very sweet!!! It's always nice to see another members collection - especially when that collection is of a player that I also collect. Thanks for sharing. Not that I can match the sweetness of yours but here are just a few of mine. Not all of them are on photo bucket - but the rest can be viewed under my Clemente Gold collection on the PSA registry site.
