Which do you prefer?

We're talking about Type 2 Liberty Head design $10 gold. For a rarer (but not rare) date do you prefer a lower grade coin, with more original skin, or a higher grade coin with less original skin?

Given those two choices, I much prefer the lower grade coin with more original skin...and that applies to any coin, not just Liberty Head $10 gold.

For type? I will always take the higher grade.

  • Much rather have a high grade nice looking problem coin than a worn-out piece of trash anyday
  • I'm a type collector who usually prefers a high grade common date coin to a lower grade scarcer date coin. But you are asking something different. I must say I really do like a nice, thick original skin on my old gold coins.

More original skin over the higher grade skinless hot dog. One must make clear,

however, the lower grade, must still be a pleasing coin overall. image

Pretty much balancing out as to the preferences.

    No runaways here so far.
