What cards smell the best?

For my money, it was 1978 Donruss KISS cards. Does anyone have any of these? Do they still smell like they did in 1978?

I also liked 1991 Stadium Club baseball.

cards that are worth a lotta money most certainly are more attractive than most others.

money typically kept in a wallet smells like a$$.

therefore, cards which smell like a$$ smell the best.

    2011 Topps Lineage smell bad

I do remember the smell of those KISS cards. Didn't they have the gum that had a lot of powder on them, not the normal Topps gum?

LOL... I bought a box of the Lineage at the National. Actually just took all the cards out of the packs Sunday night and sorted the cards... my thoughts then matched yours, "these cards smell bad"

I started collecting cards and buying packs in the late 50s and early 60s. The bubble gum smell on those Topps cards coming out of the pack was great

AGREE, except it was mid to late 60s for me. The first pack of the year smelled like GOLD!

The smell of 1980 Topps goes best with the taste of the paste we used in art class.

I think so. Even the cards that didn't touch the gum still smelled good. I'm not sure if it was the cards themselves, or if it was just because of the gum.

The 1961 Dave Hillman card that was up in my mothers attic when she was moving in 1985.I found it in an area under the wooden floor. It smelt like dirt.Too bad I could not find anything else under that floor.

Funny topic... For some reason 1991 upper deck football sticks out for me. I've actually described other smells as "it smells like upper deck cards". Before

I second this one! I was going to post '92 Ultra BB, FB, and Bask. I don't know what it is about that high gloss year, but I like it.

About 10 years ago I bought a run of Topps baseball wax boxes from 1972-76. Most of the packs still had the strong smell of gum. It was cool because I didn't collect before '76 so I got a sample of what fresh packs smelled like in prior years.

My first thought was 1981 Donruss. It must be a Donruss thing?? I did collect the KISS cards back in the day.
  • Funny topic.
I have to say 91 Stadium Club & 92 Ultra.
If you sniffed long enough, you would of probably got high.

  • The old Fleer basketball packs 86-88 with the powdered gum (Dubble-Bubble I believe). On the same note, this gum was much better than the stale Topps stuff- which I cut the inside of my mouth on more than once. I think the '81 Fleer baseball had this as well, before Topps sued and they had to use the stickers instead.
  • I bet these smell pretty good!!!

  • How could no one mention the one set of cards that was actually SUPPOSED to smell good? Pinnacle's 1996 Aficionado Baseball were actually supposed to smell like gum (even though the packs contained no pieces of gum). I recall opening a box back then and thought they smelled like artificial cherry flavoring.

1959 Topps pack - the bubblegum stays with the cardboard for some time.

Next - and more weird - for those who go back - remember the cool smell of a test copied from mimeo? The 1992F Ultra had that weird smell - must be the UV coating?

1960's baseball, the gum was the entire size of a card. At least up until 1966 IIRC.

    Good for you.
