What is the difference between these 2 types of registries? I guess I don't know what a "Collector Issue" really means..

I agree with the collectors that the food issues and stupid stickers being cut different ways was ruining the master sets but there is some logic to it.
Of course, this also depends on what player and how the PSA registry person felt at the time. For every registry rule...there are two or more sets that do not adhere to it.
Can't imagine why this would annoy anyone.
Clear Skies,
Mark
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
<< <i>OK. So, I guess the real question is what is the difference between the MASTER set and the Basic & Collector Issues set? >>
Basic Set - requires only base cards from a limited number of pre-defined manufacturer sets
Master Set - Everything!
Basic & Collector Issues - Everything in the Master set, sans inserts and parallels and all star cards and cards that aren't base cards but have the athlete pictured, etc.
Bascially, the "Collector Issues" are base cards from any set that is publically issued that isn't one of the sets specifically listed in the list for Basic Sets (IE. For Baseball, base cards from brands like Leaf R&S and SPX are considered collector issues, simply because those sets aren't part of the "basic" list for baseball).
As far as the inconsistencies are concerned, "missing" cards can only be added to a set after they are graded. This includes cards already in the registry. Killebrew's master set is missing the O-Pee-Chee HR and RBI Leader cards, but they're in the Mantle set. I'll have to get mine graded and request that they be added.
Overall, I think it's a fun way towork on your sets, but it can be a little frustrating.
Have fun collecting!
Joe

Actually, it's more so after the card has been graded... only in so much as that a cert number is required to have the card added to the set composition.
Not that it should affect the set you speak of... PSA should simply fix that... it's a problem and raises a whole cloud of confusion on what's suppose to be there and what's not when PSA publishs Master sets of players still playing, and God forbid but it does happen... rookies! I just saw they added the Aroldis Chapman Master Set yesterday... why???
I can understand Basic sets of current players... the set brands are known. Basic & Collector Issues is a little more managable, but still kind of silly... but Master Sets... that can literally be thousands of single cert add requests processed over the coming years (and still no guarantee to set contents accurately reflect what the set composition SHOULD be). I for one would be totally onboard if PSA came out and said they would no longer add Master Sets (of any kind) for players who are still active in their respective sport(s).
<< <i>It has always annoyed me that Leaf is part of the basic set in baseball and OPC is not. Isn't Leaf basically the Canadian Donruss like OPC is the Canadian Topps? >>
I've been fighting this for awhile...requests, emails, and even supporting emails from other collectors haven't changed a thing.

Well I love collecting OPC baseball, so I guess it would only cost me more money if this ever changed. Now after I get every OPC baseball card I want, then I suppose it would increase their value to be added to basic sets. Regardless, having Leaf in basic sets and not OPC is just stupid. Rant complete, I will shut up about it.
