Do other countries' "junk silver" trade by the roll or bag?

Many countries issued silver coins for circulation back in the day, but I've never heard of "junk silver" bags other than for U.S. and Canadian coins. Do bags of any other countries' common silver coins exist in any quantity, and if so are they traded or melted for bullion value?

I've seen some Polish silver pre-war coins sold in big lots, but there is still a modest numismatic premium. It's not like U.S. 90% which is often right around melt.

  • Australian pre-decimal coins sell by the kilo, but I think there is 50% or 90% depending on the year so usually comes sorted. Think most of it goes for close to spot?

And Australian round 50 cent coins, which were only issued in 1966 (and the only silver 50c) are usually traded as bullion with a small premium to spot.
Still thinking of what to put in my signature...

Up to 1945 the coins are sterling (.925) After that they are .500 fine.
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

    Got quoins?
  • I used to buy a lot of junk foreign silver on Ebay in large lots. Never sorted by country though, just a mish-mash. I would only buy them at a discount of 25% or more to melt. I'd use this site as a reference on silver content http://www.currencydebasement.com

    Good luck!
