Any premium on pedigree cards?

Would any of you pay a premium on a pedigree card? I see lots of Lionel Carter pedigree flips on Ebay, and looking at completed auctions, some seem to have sold for a bit more than VCP. I was wondering if this was because of the pedigree?

Thoughts?

Personally, I would not pay more for a pedigree card. For me, it's all about the guy on the card, not the identity of the previous owner.

  • I tend to think the premium that is being seen may just be due to the fact the card is a high end example for the grade. The original owner may have had quality cards for the grade and it may be a reason to look closer at the card with the pedigree. But a simple answer is no, not just because it was owned by xxxx for me anyway.

some of the "whitey ford" collection White Fords would be a great conversation piece, other than that no
  • Maybe...If the right one came up.

I'm a life long Gehrig Fan. If their was a card that Lou owned, and it was proven YES.. But it would also be way out of my price range. Gehrig cards from 1925-1941 cost too much for me.

    That is the only way.

Without accompanying, convincing provenance, I wouldn't trust the pedigree (see Antiques Road Show!).

In fact I wouldn't like the extra verbiage on the label. It would stick out from the other, standard labels in my set(s)...

Zero premium added, in my opinion.
  • Nope, I'll pedigree my PSA 8 Jerry Rice....want to buy it for a premium?

I wouldnt mind owning a Mickey Mantle once owned by Mickey Mantle

I think historical meaning has value, pedigree's are cool, just as cool as thinking about what each individual card has gone through since being ripped from a pack many years ago.

I'm not a fan of pedigree cards.

But, I do understand people paying a slight premium for a Carter card e.g.

Usually no, unless it could be proven to be owned by the player pictured, or someone significant, like Gretzky's Wagner image

I can see paying a small premium depending on who the previous owner was.

Lionel carter, Skylar (?) Hull Collection and Whitey Ford are the more prominent ones, was there any ever Halper or other pedigree's that had memorable names?
