"We will not tolerate the previous generation passing on its debts to the next, nor will we pick up the bill to access a college and university education that was funded for them,"

The lines between liberalism and conservativism seem to be blurred here. So, they don't like FDR-type policies after all?

Politicians are a strange breed indeed. They all suffer from a common vision problem.....

They can only see as far as the next election. They are a religious people also. they

pray everyday, that things hold together until they can collect their Federal Pension.image

Very few care about the poor, the sick, the aged and the unemployed. The people of the

Nation are bleeding out and for the most part, our politicians care only about the next fat

cat fund raising party. It a very sad comment, about "A Government of the people, for the people

and by the people " that should never have disappeared from the face of the earth.

Campaign Finance Reform, but it will never happen in my lifetime unless there is a complete collapse of our economy. I would not mind $20 Billion(though probably would be 100's of Billions) going to publicly funded elections, so you don't have to be rich like Meg Whitman to run for office. I think she used $120 million of her money to try to get elected to governor of CA. There needs to be an alternative incentive for politicians to stay in office. I said this before, it is human nature for Power to corrupt. Meg Whitman Read the comments on the huffington post about Meg after this article. This is the type of person who is running for office.

Ironically, the guy who said that is a major reason we're where we are today. When so much power is concentrated in one place, what do you expect will happen other than attracting people who want to use that power? Campaign finance reform? Until you limit the ability of the government to micromanage everything in the country that can be imagined, it doesn't matter what you do. If you want reform, you need to make it so there is no incentive to even try to buy candidates or political offices or elections.

That money went into the California economy. It didn't just evaporate. Why anyone would want that job is beyond me. Like volunteering to be the Captain of the Titanic after hitting the iceberg.

It's unfair to make such significant changes for students already in school. Fine, triple them for
new students but those already in school shoudn't have to pay more than 30 or 50% increases
    annually.

People make plans based on existing things and should not be expected to remake plans after
years of hard work. It's simply not fair. There will be a few students who will be forced to drop
out just when they're ready to graduate and many more who are well on their way.

Why not start raising taxes oin the rich one or two percent each year.

Many years ago, the people of California agreed to tax ourselves sufficiently

to build an educational system UC that would be available to all residents of

California almost free of charge. We wanted freeways and new water ways and

we were willing to pay the price. Now we are faced with the mantra of lower and lower

taxes. The end result is a decaying infrastructure, a UC system too expensive for many

Californians, inadequate Freeways and constant water shortages. In addition, we are up

to debt to our collective kazoos. In the real world, people usually get what they pay for and

do not get what they are unwilling to pay for. Lower taxes have led to increased disparity

in wealth, less quality jobs, more poverty and a poorer place to live. It is a very high price indeed

and we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg for 20 years of lower taxes.

Sure. The new governor can't make things any worse than they already are. Governor of a state that rivals the GDP of most world nations is a great stepping stone to higher political office. And with higher office comes more connected power and wealth. This about parlaying $120 MILL into BILLIONS down the road. Not to mention cementing wealth into one's family for generations to come. Just having the money is no guarantee you can keep it. But being a member of the Bilderbergs, Tri-Lateral Commission, and other control groups will help ensure you keep your wealth and hopefully grow it. The Clintons did it with just the Arkansas governorship. Palin is working her way up from Alaska governor. Very usefull stepping stones though neither of those 2 spent $120 MILL in the process, basically because they didn't have it. If they had it, they probably would have spent it.

Look at our elected congressmen and sentators. Many, if not the majority of them spend >$1 MILL per year of their own money on a job that pays a fraction of that. Why?? In the state of Connecticut former WWE CEO Linda McMahon spent $50 MILL of her own money in the bid for Chris Dodd's senate seat. Why? The answer should be obvious. Would have been the best $50 MILL they could have spent...esp. since they had it to begin with. She'll run again for Lieberman's seat in 2 yrs. So that $50 MILL didn't go to waste yet. Those who have the power and own the gold...set the rules.

The insurance industry openly bragged that they "lobbied" Congress to the tune of 5.5 million dollars per congressman to get the health care bill passed.
