59er needs help with this.

27 years ago before Professional Grading begun I purchased a very nice group of 56 topps for my set several had a small ink dot or small ink mark on the back I assume from 1956.Although this is not the best example of the group of cards it does have a mark along the right side of the cartoon which is probably bigger than most of the marks.Would PSA automatically give it a qualifier MK or if I do not requst qualifiers most of the time how much would it take off the grade of the card? This card appears to be miscut/diamond cut and probably would not be graded however my concern is the mark or dot.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

MK's generally get the MK qualifier.

IIRC only OC, and possibly OF will get the net grade.

Edited to add, The above card also has a wax stain so in this specific case I'm not sure what they would do.

ST qualifier and down grade for the mark?

I was not going to submit this card I was just more concerned with the mark.I have 20 cards with the mark that I feel could get anywhere from 7 to 9 I guess a qualifier on cards this old would not look too bad.
    Thanks for your help.

I have many cards from the 56 and 57 sets that have ink or different color spots on the back and none of them got qualifers. I think some of my marks are actually in the stock and not a print defect. That same spot on the front would be trouble.

Thats encouraging I have around 150 56 topps that are high grade quality however about 20 of them(wouldnt you know it) are high #that have and spot or small ink mark somewhere in back of the card.I have had these cards so long and have just opened my binder to study them just a couple days ago.

  • I think that mark could go either way as far as whether it gets a qualifier. I believe Steve is right that there's no net grade for a card that would otherwise be MK.

I will say that if I purchased that card in PSA 6 or 7 NQ and it arrived with that pen mark on the back, I'd be looking for a refund.

I am pretty sure you'll still get the MK qualifer, even if you ask for no qualifiers. That only applies to things like OC, PD, etc... I always ask for no Qs and just got an MK back (on a 56 none the less).

I agree with BINatVCP - I'd hate to get a 6 that looked like an 8 with an ink mark.
