92 Down--1967 Topps Who Am I? Completed in PSA 8 or Better

My 92nd set completed in PSA 8 or better is 1967 Topps Who Am I?, a 44-card collection of famous people throughout history.

I started collecting this set close to ten years ago when I bought the four baseball cards in the set--Ruth, Mantle, Mays and Koufax. About four years ago I decided totry to complete the set given my interest in collecting cards of famous historical figures. The final card I needed to complete the set is also the toughest--the pop 6 James Monroe. Other ones I found tough in the set were Benjamin Franklin(pop 8) and Teddy Roosevelt(pop 9). The last card in the set--Lyndon Johnson--is also tough(pop 7).

My set consists of 39 PSA 8s and 5 PSA 9s and has a set rating of 8.11. This ranks it third on the PSA Set Registry behind Alan R. King(8.4) and Mighty(8.27). I will let the set rest at this level.

This represents my 92nd set overall with each card PSA 8 or better and my 17th non-sport set. The goal remains 100 vintage or semi-vintage sets completed in PSA 8 or better. I appreciate the help of all collectors and dealers in helping me achieve my goals.

Thanks to all for their congrats.

As to whats next after 100--I will work hard to finish the sets in progress which are probably another 50 or so. The problem is that the cards I need are either expensive, scarce or nonexistant.

You could try scratching the non existing ones off your list, although based on the discussion on the 54 post war board that can be controversial too.

    Congrats by the way

    Al:

I think Jim means non-existent in terms of a specific grade -- e.g. the card exists, but it has never been graded PSA 8 or higher, which is his standard in this 100+ completely graded sets project.

Correct--I meant nonexistant in psa 8 or better.

An example would be the 1961 Essex Meats Sihugo Green which last time I checked had only 1 graded and it was a 4.

Rakosi tells me I should count it as complete without the Sihugo Green card but I haven't resorted to that yet.

By the way, has anyone seen Mike Rakosi's(The Undisputed King of Vintage Basketball)Web TV show entitled "That Show With Michael Rakosi"? He is a very talented guy.

Jim, congrats on #92 - very impressive.
  • Topps Who Am I? is a cool set. Congrats. It's neat how you started this set with the sports heroes a while back but then it led you to the historical figures - another interest of yours.
