Guess I'm a bit disappointed.....

After all these years I finally sent it in for grading....

1995-W $1 Eagle US PR67DC

On the bright side... I did get it directly from the mint in 1995 on a spur of the moment purchase. Wasn't like I had an extra $1000 to spend on the set back then and I ALMOST sent it back for a refund!.

They are EXTREMELY tight on these. If it were any other year, it probably would have 69DCAM'ed.

Sucks, but I wouldn't sweat it. Crack it out, put it back in the original mint packaging and it will recoup virtually all of its value prior to this unseemly slabbing incident. image

And there you have a pretty good summary of much of what is wrong in today's coin market.

I agree that as I buyer I would want to know the full grading history, and some dealer's out there are honest enough to provide such records... but as long as the seller doesn't advertise the coin as original and never graded, I don't have a huge problem with such a decision either... The grade handed down by PCGS is only one opinion of grade and not necessarily the consensus grade of the coin...

I have seen 2 1995w in hand that just came back from grading and they recieved the 67 death grade also. While i did not study them in depth i was surprised at the low grade. Of the 2 i just saw one was in Fort Worth and the other in Dallas tx. Maybe you need to send it in a few more times.

Crack it and enjoy. You still come out way ahead.image

  • Crack the coin out and give it is freedom.... I didnt like the grade on some of my coins, and I feel they are worth more raw, actually.

Thanks for your input everyone. If I do eventually crack it out.... whats the best way to do so?

Bah humbug. The coin's the same thing it was prior to the submission. There's a difference between bad morals and smart business.

My point exactly. If the coin is the same, what difference does it make what the holder or the packaging looks like?
