Not a rare medal but this is one of the nicest I've seen and there's a lot of neat history in this medal as it was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1861 after the defection by the New Orleans Mint employees of that year to join with the South during the beginning months of the Civil War. Apparently Mint Director James Pollack believed that taking an oath would dispel any southern sympathizers.
