VAM Experts - help needed! 1922-D Peace (multiple pics inside, dialup beware!)

mattnissmattniss Posts: 778 ✭✭✭✭✭
Tried to look this one up on VAMWorld but wasn't able to find a VAM listing that included everything pictured below. It looks like its got three separate die breaks on the obverse - one from below the IN onto Liberty's neck, a second, non-attached break also from the neck through the T in TRVST and up to the edge of Liberty's hair and a smaller third one from the R in Liberty to one of the rays between E and R. Any experts know which VAM this is? Appreciate all the help!

These are die cracks, not die breaks. VAM descriptions record only breaks (lumps of metal visible to the naked eye), and not die cracks which are common and just a natural function of an aging die. Sorry!

Thanks for the feedback Wolf359! The cracks on the lower obverse are definitely visible to the naked eye though.

Right, but they're still not die breaks.

I'm aware of that now. I was just stating something that may not have been obvious by the photo. It does have some of the same characteristics of the VAM 2Y.

Definitely appreciate the help so far! Any knowledge and/or information that helps me to understand my collection better is worth a lot!

Maybe it would be clearer if die cracks that eventually progress into “VAMable” breaks, were illustrated – when possible.

However, 1922 and 23 dollars have so many cracks in the approximate positions as on your coin, that it might be a very frustrating exercise.

[PS: I make no claim to expertise in "VAMs."]
