It's kinda wierd, almost as if they want us back. They keep creating pm threads over there! Life is confusing sometimes.image

I find it amusing that a coin collector has to post a thread where to buy bullion.

I recon he has never went to a decent size coin show or surfed the WWW much.image

I thought that was odd too. So I replied and told the collector to come over here.

It is kinda strange. I guess we are at phase II where the media starts picking up on things and begins to spread the word. Usually, this is the place to get off the train but it seems like it's just getting started rolling good. Hummmmmm. Oh well, I bought a season ticket, keep on playin'.

While it does feel odd posting on a gold thread over there I figure it's a must when less than good information/advice is posted. For instance today someone was suggesting that buying GLD was the best way (ie most inexpensive) to hold gold. While that may be true it is also true that the cheapest way to buy the Brooklyn Bridge is to head to Brooklyn and pay off the guy who is offering it the cheapest. If you toss in an extra 10c for the copy machine he'll even write you an invoice showing that you are the rightful and true owner of the bridge.

It is always a little troubling when every Tom, Dick and Harry

starts rushing around to buy gold. Lemmings are cute furry

creatures, but when they start going over the cliff , I worry some.

It would be interesting to see a 'post your latest gold purchase'... just to see what the coin forum side is buying...

I don't know if talking about premiums over melt is constructive there...

I was also expecting a modern basher to read about us buying 80's gold commems... and say... 'see I told you never to buy commems directly from the mint... wait and get them at or below spot'.

One thing about us here at the pm forum... we are more apt to flip 'paper' than physical. I also think that we may have a longer time horizon... on the stuff that we buy.

All in all it seems like a recent thing... so its all good to me.

btw... has anyone else been to the perth mint website lately? Some of prices seem out of wack (priced in USD).

It seems many of the Classic collectors think only coins that circulated are coins the rest is bullion. On the other hand I think all the classic gold was bullion in it's day (backed by fixed gold or silver). The classic comms are considered collecting but the moderns aren't in some minds. Collecting is what you make out of it. I'm so confusedimage Really what does it really matter to PGCS they grade both products it's not like you taking your 3 cent silver to the store anymore.

Funny even the junk silver coins are consider bullion by most even though they did circulate. I wouldn't be surprised if this market run long enough there will be a huge melt in junk silver the cripples the collectors maket. I'm sure many of us started collecting from change when silver coins could be had at the bank in an album. New collectors often buy junk silver to start to build a set. I really always consider collecting as collecting. To me buying prue bullion is investing and is better served buying huge bars.

it makes me feel disoriented and discombulated - really messing with my OCD to have those posts over yonder.

It's a bifurcated situation and it ain't my fault. I was learning happily in the coin forum until we were led into exile here.

I still come here to learn and read, but ... I know coins a little better than the "market". Thanks for still sharing , though image
