Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
Here's one of the 1961 Giants Jay's Publishing card/photo's. They're 5" x 7" black and white photo's with blank backs. I think a lot of people confuse them with the Team Issue photo's. They came in 12 card "picture paks" and were issued in 1960 and 1961 for several NFL teams and many more baseball teams. I can't recall all the football teams but I know there are Redskins, Eagles, Giants, Steelers, Colts, Lions, Cardinals, and I think maybe a couple others? I read somewhere that they were also sold at the stadiums, but I'm not sure if that's true?
They seem much much easier to find for the baseball teams. You can still find unopened baseball packs and singles on ebay. The Giants seem to be the easiest of all the Football teams to find.
I don't know who Jay's publishing was/is .. although it could have been Jay Wolt from Quality Cards sitting in his basement, running a printing press and eating cheeseburgers back in 1960/1961. It would explain a lot. Especially the over printing of the NY Giants issue ... and the under printing of the Redskins and Eagles sets, and no Cowboys set at all. ;-)
Actually, the order form to get them has a mailing address of "Big League Books" out of New Canaan, Conn.
I included a scan below of the original order form from 1961 for you ... just in case you wanted to try and send away for a couple packs!
<< <i>Mike would you sell a handful from your partial sets? John >>
Hey John,
That depends on which handful and which sets. I've got deals working on several of the sets. Also, I'm not looking to have any of the sets "cherry picked" through or all of the stars pulled out. But if it's just a small handful you need to finish a set, shoot me a list and I'll see if there's something we can do for you.
