No, I believe the most expensive item per gram would be a pack of cigarettes. A New Hampshire man was recently charged $23 quadrillion dollars on his debit card for a single pack of cigarettes:

Yeah, I saw that, but what's really funny is that
the bank also charged him a $15.00 overdraft fee.

That's the truth! I bought a $40 scanner/printer recently and the replacement ink will cost about $38. I might as well buy a new printer every time I need ink!

Governmentium. Once you use a gram of it, it keeps on costing you forever, even after you and and infinite generation of yours have come and gone, the little bit of governmentium that you used will keep on taking.

So in reality, it has infinite expense.

If you're referring to collectible items, I believe that certain meteorites can command $10,000+/gram.

Before seeing the antimatter I would have guessed refined radioactive elements and minerals.

I will also propose that antimatter not be considered because of the properties of antimatter compared to the question at hand.

What is the most expensive item per gram?

    Helium-3.

It's very rare and very light.

Nuclear fusion folks seem to think it has promise as a fuel.

It is especially expensive if you weigh it wrong, as in tying balloons full of helium to your scale platform.

Numismatically speaking (in an auction sense), it is probably the gem unc 1792 half dime Heritage sold in their April 2006 sale.

No doubt the prescription eardrops my wife just needed for her ear infection. I have never seen a bottle so tiny, or so expensive.

As for Anti Matter, it has negative wieght, so it does not cost per gram... it pays per gram.

Shush.... be very quiet... and I'll tell you, but you have to promise not to tell anyone else...

The answer to the question is....

    MY WIFE!

She cost me everything... my money... my sanity... my youth... that pain in my neck... and even some of my coin budget. You name it... she took it. She is the most expensive thing in my life.

But, I wouldn't trade her for anything. (That's the wife disclaimer right there so I can still sleep in my own bed when I come home.)
