Invite you and your guests
to attend
PNG Day
August 4, 2009
LA, CA
LA Convention Center
10AM-3:30PM

PNG member, numismatic dealer since 1965. Operates a retail store, also has exhibited at over 1000 shows.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

This is a serious question-- why does the PNG have a special day if the hoi polloi (including dealers who are members of the unwashed dealer masses) can attend?
    Always took candy from strangers
Didn't wanna get me no trade
Never want to be like papa
Working for the boss every night and day

It is an invitational bourse, Michael, for the most serious of numismatists, who want a private showing from many of the leading dealers in the world.

    Surely, you qualify.

Technically PNG day is a separate show from the ANA. But that is very technical. It originated as a day when PNG dealers could invite their best clients to a "classier" coin show where the dealers were required to wear a shirt and tie and look presentable. Over the past 10 years or so it has begun to go down hill. I attribute it mostly to the fact that a dealer can reach their best customers all year round and there is no need to see them face to face to make deals. Personally I feel it makes the show too long especially with the Pre-ANA stuff. That being said I do believe that there should be some sort of PNG only show to bring some of the old ways back.

First, get rid of the Pre-ANA stuff!!

This is a great showcase for PNG dealers and for the serious numismatists that do not cherish the fact that they have to compete with the masses for the best coins and get to examine these coins before many others. I would encourage all to attend with this invitation.

I am terribly sorry that I have not responded sooner, Bear, but the simple answer to your question is YES!!!!

I actually would not suggest doing so, as you may have to fill out forms, unless you keep your individual purchases to less than $10K, so just bring along the famous Bear checkbook.

Gee, the thought of my favorite coin dealers in ties is quite frightening to me! image

It kind of makes you feel like you are going to buy a used car from the proverbial used car salesman!
