Thanks to Joe Kaminski for this 1892 IHC proof in an old PCGS rattler, and CAC'd to boot....

did you pick it up from him in person at a show or off his website, hoping it was as nice in hand as his pics?

I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived to see that it was MUCH nicer in-hand. I actually remember saying, wow!

That sure is a very nice proof, I really like the colors. I just bought this one at the B&M auction, though their photos aren't that great (I'm having Todd take new pictures). It has full reflective fields with similar pretty yellow green toning along with some pink magenta.

It's quite possible that it would earn a CAM designation if submitted today. I don't believe PCGS used the cameo designation back in the old rattler days?

Is this a coin Forum or an ad for JELLO?image
There once was a place called
    Camelotimage
  • Its coins like this that make me think PCGS TruView should be free and a must to all slabbed coins.

Great color, and looks like a great strike too! Got a shot of the reverse?

It looks like a nice coin. However, I doubt highly that it would go cameo since PCGS likes much more contrast than is typically seen on BN proof copper for this designation and a fair enough number of pieces without the designation and struck in copper also show an apparently decent cameo contrast.

I believe that PCGS will only give a CAM designation to a RD coin. NGC I belive has given CAM designation to some RB coins. In any event the designation should be based on the presence of mint frost rather than toning.
