**Ebay kicks off pack counterfeiters (WAXGOLD) & (HUNTER17045)**

I just received today an email from Ebay informing me that, after thorough investigation on their part, they kicked pack counterfeiter (hunter17045) off Ebay. And two weeks ago Ebay also contacted me telling me they kicked (waxgold) off Ebay as well.
Unfortunately Ebay failed to eliminate (waxgold)'s other alias ID's nor did Ebay eliminate (hunter17045)'s alias ID's as well. In both cases I supplied Ebay with ample evidence showing that both sellers used numerous other ID's to perpetrate their fraud.
Ebay has now demonstrated on several occasions that, even with undisputable evidence of counterfeiting and the use of multiple ID's, they will only kick off the user ID that was selling the counterfeit packs and take NO action on the alias ID's these same sellers are using to buy the components to contruct these packs.
If you want to exterminate ALL the roaches in your house you won't accomplish this by fumigating only one room--you must do the whole house!

can we force ebay to do more? like reporting all the info to the police and let the police put all these guys in jail.
I remember LV sue ebay for not doing enough and won big time.
Appreciate all you've done for us collectors summerof68!
Please keep up the great work ...

Actually, If you have a suspended account you can't have any other active accounts going. they will be suspended as well. Back when I actually reported crud like this and took the time like you're doing I got many accounts suspended when they ran a alias. Just be persistant.
<< <i>as a result of this, doesnt this mean that you, or me or anyone on this board can no longer sell an unopend box of 1988 topps baseball without having it graded and authenticated by a 3rd party grader? From previous postings on this subject, and a board members listings getting removed, i though there was a new policy in place, is this correct? >>
Good Day,
That was my stuff that was removed. And E-Bay's new policy is clear as Mud on the subject. After dozens of E-Mails back and forth with them and 8 Different Phone conversations with Power Seller Supervisors, they deemed my stuff OK for now. Basically they told me that each case would be looked at individually. But I am keeping there E-Mails and Hard copying them as well for the next time they remove my stuff. I have decided I had to Re-List some of it, I just have too much money tied up in it and numerous regular customers who were not pleased with the action. Hopefully they can see the difference moving forward in The Real Crooks selling 50's, 60's, 70's high dollar packs and my $1-$5 dollar TV/Movie type packs I have been selling for years.
The really funny situation is that when my listings were removed you could still do a search and find dozens of other Sellers selling exactly the same as mine that were removed. Whatever E-Bay!!!!!!!!!!!

But then a few days later they let pack counterfeiter (hunter17045) throw on a new run of counterfeit vintage bb & fb wax packs--and this was days after I emailed ebay with all my evidence of his counterfeiting! At least ebay kicked off (hunter17045) but that has nothing to do with their new policy.
With respect to board members (thedutymon) & (ichirodeparted) I do want to state that weeks ago when I was corresponding with ebay's fraud department I made it clear to ebay that eliminating ALL sales of uncertified vintage unopened product was absolutely impractical.
Ebay mentioned to me the possibility of choosing a "threshold" year and they asked my thoughts as to a particular year. I outlined that it was not cost feasible for sellers to be forced to have packs 1977 and newer graded (exceptions being of course '86 Fleer basketball, '79 opc hockey, etc.) I also made it clear that the majority of counterfeiting was taking place in the areas of vintage baseball and football.
So with this in mind I recommended that all (baseball) & (football) wax, cellos, racks & boxes from 1976 and earlier be certified. I added that 1976 was IMO a "swing" year and 1975 would be a more conservative choice.
I know that there will be sellers who won't like 1976 or 1975 as a "threshold" year but if a seller's material is legitimate then the minimal cost to have it slabbed should easily be recouped once it is certified. And remember this was only my response to ebay's asking my suggestion--and thus far ebay hasn't incorporated ANY of my suggestions other than kicking off selected ebayers!
I know there is no one answer that will satisfy all of us but if intelligent minds can come together on this then I'm sure we can find answers that will make ebay a much safer place to shop while at the same time giving honest sellers a chance to realize top dollar for their authentic unopened vintage product.
What is the impact on Cello packs to your understanding at this point. It is valid when considering late 70's - 80's wax less valuable and therefore less prone to resealing (with the 1986 Basketball, 1979 Hockey as clear exceptions). However, cello's are a much different story. Because of the premium for "Star Packs", packs throughout the late 1970's and 1980's are valuable enough for a closer eye. I have seen 1985 Fleer packs with Clemens on top resealed. Looking at some of the prices that the same card on front and back have gone for (such as 1987 Topps Bonds), it might be worth a look. Racks would be the same story.

A email. And he refunded.
The year 1976 or 1975 is IMO a starting point. From there refinements can be made to further protect the hobby.
It' not that difficult to track and expose sellers who buy raw wrappers and then sell counterfeit packs. But cellos and racks are a whole different matter.
Ebay is flooded with "bad" cellos especially baseball cellos from 1962 to 1969 (raw & slabbed). I routinely see slabbed cellos from these years where very small pockets of gum powder residue can be seen inside the reverse folds. Topps didn't place gum in cellos these years so there should be no evidence of gum powder whatsoever.
This gum residue comes from counterfeiters using 1981 topps baseball 12-card grocery cello wrappers or '83 topps football 12-card grocery cello wrappers which have no factory printing and hold the same number of cards as the topps cellos from '62 to '69. But these early 80's Topps grocery cellos contained gum and many sloppy counterfeiters don't thoroughly clean out the gum residue before reusing the wrapper.
Ebay is flooded with these easily made bogus cellos from '62 to '69 and its getting to the point of being rediculous! People are making hugh money doing this and it needs to be stopped.
Similarly on ebay there are people counterfeiting 1970 thru 1972 Topps baseball 30-33 card cellos by simply using the plain wrappers found only in 1983 fleer baseball cello rack packs which contain three cellos each containing 28 cards. There's a couple clowns on ebay currently doing this and making $200 to $300 a pop.
Al Rosen, "Mr. Mint" wrote a book back in the late 80's and he specifically mentioned that he was aware of individuals who were very good at removing the top cards on Donruss racks and replacing them with stars.
So pack tampering for profit has been going on for decades but only in the last year or so has it reached epidemic levels.
Ebay needs to get serious and sit down with some experts in unopened product and counterfeiting and adopt some sensible and practical guidelines. And your point on late '70's & early 80's star cellos and racks should surely be incorporated.
