I am weak...

..went to a new coin store in town (1st mistake), saw toned coins (forgot 100% dark sunglasses at home), forgot economic situation (me so old!), paid thru the nose (me stupid), new idioc^H^H^H^H^H passion is toned copper (who could resist the devil's red metal, I say, WHO!?), lost control (expecting punishment from wife shortly; can't even claim I was drunk or abducted by aliens).

If I survive, should I send these in? Share some of your toned impulse buys (ya know, the ones you hide from your better half?)

    Very nice sets of coins.

As far as sending them in, are you looking to protect the finish? Are you looking for high value coins?

If you want to protect some of the nicer toned ones then submit those you want to keep in current state. If you are looking for high value coins, I would assume that those missing may have been the really valuable ones.

    JMHO.

  • Definitely send the toners in. They definitely should slab as NT.

If your wife gives you a hard time, sell some of them off. I'm sure there will be some other people out there who can't resist the devil's red metal and they will bid each other up in an auction. All you need is for one to do well.

Yes, preservation is the key here. The cents are at their best, so to speak. The other coins may have been the neat ones, or they may have been popped out and put in an album.. who knows. Supposedly they came in the store that way. image

We all crack if enough pressure is applied. According to Hemingway, we become stronger in the broken places. By the way, nice sets!!image

Keep the sets intact unless you have something really special- I mean it's not worth breaking up an original mint set for a few MS65 slabs that are worth less than the mint set as whole and cost you $30+ a coin to slab. I have slabbed many 57 and 58 franklins and grade 64-65 and sell for less than the slabbing cost. You really need a monster toner or MS66 FBL/FT coins to come out on top slabbing these. They are nice looking sets. image
