Radio talk: global economic collapse

CoasttoCoast had two guys talking about the end of the world as we know it on the Sunday night show. This show often has way out there topics say as Bigfoot, UFOs, ghost stories, and the like, so keep that in mind. That said, the scenario they were talking about makes the predictions on this forum look like happy talk. Really. The two guys have what they called a web bot "time machine," make of it what you will.
They did have a good suggestion to look at the Pandemic Flu planning lists for surviving in a world after all the economies collapse, and to use that as a planning list. One item that was emphasized was medicine and medical supplies. Anyone on prescription medicine will likely no longer have access.
Interested parties can listen to a replay at the CoasttoCoast site, Sunday show.

In case anyone would give these whackjobs any credence, here's what's on the front page of the site:
<< <i>Recap
Calamitous Web Bot Predictions
George Ure and his colleague 'Cliff', two self-described "time monks," shared dire predictions based on their web bot technology. Their method captures changes in language patterns within Internet discussions. This aggregated data is then processed with software to determine various keywords, which they interpret in a predictive fashion.
Beginning on October 7, 2008 and running through March 2009, they foresee a calamitous period on an epic scale. America will be beset by a variety of problems, which they broke down as 45-48% related to the economy, 40% concerning the military, and the rest associated with natural disasters. Between 2 and 22 million lives could be lost or seriously impacted, they estimated, possibly related to a "global coastal event" in 2009. On Dec. 10-12th, 2008, a large quake could hit the Pacific Northwest, they added.
The two recommended developing self-sufficiency and the ability to live off the grid. They also spoke about strange disappearances next year, in which people, including those in power, will vanish without a trace into interdimensional doorways. Additionally, an object they call a "coherer" -- a reverse-engineered or left-behind dimensional artifact is currently in the possession of people who are concerned for their lives. >>

Yeah......... what the Hell........
Sure I believe every bit of it, isn't that what happened to Elvis after he faked his own death?

shape or another. i heard about it a year or two ago.
otherwise it is garbage. it attempts to see trends.
as for that late night radio show i listen to it sometimes when
picking up the gf after her 2nd shift. I can barely tolerate it and
soon turn the channel because it is so far fetched.
on the functioning of the entire manufacturing and distribution
systems in place. Populations in virtually all countries are far
higher than can be supported by sustainable means without
the operation of current systems.
Failure is not an option. Systems will not be able to be re-
started in most area with severely reduced populations.
And herein lies the reason we can expect inflation. All system-
ic failures can be masked with inflation. But those expecting
"end of the world" levels of inflation are being unnecessarily
pessimistic.
The gravest danger is the inefficiency promoted by inflation.

cladking, that sounds like eugenics...which is supported by the uber-left.
There are millions that are happy that this disaster is happening to the USA and the world.

I'm hardly suggesting population declines are a positive.
It's unlikely that a ravaged planet can possibly support more than a couple hundred
million people and this would presuppose that in most areas cooperation is the dri-
ving force. A lot of old technology would have to be redeveloped to maintain popu-
lations at this level.
Frankly the concept of most people in the world dying is appalling to me and completely
politically unacceptable to virtually all world leaders. The only winners would be the
most backward countries which have already killed off most of the population and os-
tracized themselves from the world stage. Not that conditions would be better but
they could recover more quickly and still function with some military. Iran would be an
exception even here; they'd be among the worst off.
I don't believe there will be such a meltdown simply because it is avoidable and unac-
ceptable. So long as the infrastructure exists it doesn't really matter who owns or who
goes out of business. We could end up with the governments grabbing everything and
it wouldn't matter all that much since we effectively have central planning anyway to a
large degree.
But it will be kept operating. If it's done efficiently with increasing productivity there
will be increasing wealth and if it's done poorly there will be decreasing wealth. In any
case it looks like Americans don't care if the rich take increasing pieces for themselves.
The best bet is we'll muddle through with more inflation, more concentration of wealth,
and a slowly declining standard of living for much of middle class America.
There are many ways a melt down might unfold but they'd all have the same end point
after a relatively few years. There's not enough food for 6 billion people but it takes that
many to run the machine we call the economy.

There will indeed be a cure for the hopeless masses with no power, no TV, no food and no hope ( it ain't Obama, either ).
Count on a really powerful Government to deliver a cure unto the World. What could it be? Hint : Bird Flu.
