Incredible. I'm just glad I drafted Marshall for my fantasy team, LOL.

I see teams are claiming Sproles...is LT hurt worse than we thought or just another case of chasing the hot hand?

Smart move going for 2 and the right move - I said that as soon as Shanahan made the call. The way the game was going...the odds I believe were in the favor of Denver going for 2 - strongly in their favor. Plus Shanahan knows it's a long season - no sense wearing out the troops in the second game which was already a very tiring game and in a game such as that, overtime risks injuries. A top notch football coach there, and of course that is no secret.
  • I don't know if it was a smart move. It was lucky. If they didn't get it he would have been raked over the coals. Gutsy, lucky call, but I don't think it was smart.

The intelligence of the call is dictated by the end result.

  • Charger fans have EVERY right to be pissed about the outcome of this game. They need to stop the whistle happy refs, every week some zebra does this crap.

Which is exactly why as another professional coach once implied...that if a coach starts listening to, thinking like the fans, he'll soon be sitting with them. The great coaches in history in key situations sometimes make calls the average fan doesn't understand. I'm not saying I understand all calls that great coaches make, but as stated, in my opinion this was actually an easy call to go for the 2 whether it worked or not, and if you watched the game, which I did, you might understand that it was the right call, and the smart call.

I agree. It's a shame that the referee's can alter the outcome of a very important game. Second problem was earlier in the game the replay booth did not work and San Diego got screwed on that call too. Norv Turner's blood pressure must be boiling right noe and rightly so. It's so bad when they still cannot get it right with a dozen set of eyes on it. That said Norv Turner is now 1-5 in September. Can they not prepare for September?

Exactly. If they dont make it, ESPN is talking about what a donkey Shanahan is, but right now, he's the smartest guy in the room

I dont have a side in this one, but really bad calls, bad officiating. You play until the action stops, not when you hear a whistle, your taught that in high school FB. for them to NOT call that a fumble because the ref accidentally blew the whistle early, Sucks.

He should have given the ball to SD, said sorry i blew the whistle. not sorry i blew the whistle, I screwed up, play stops. Frustrating, and I dont even like the chargers, actually prefer the Doncos, just hate bad officiating.

Joe, 26 straight home opener wins. Destroyed the team 24-0 in week 14 at home last year. How in the world could they lose to the Niners at home? Seattle was my Suicide pick and lock for week 2. I guess it was suicide to pick them. 0-2 for the 4 time division winners? I know they are on their 5th and 6th string wide receivers, but up 20-13 with a potent running game inside the SF 15 and the throw a pass to a receive that doesn't yet grasp the offense and 86 yds later the score is tied. Bad coaching, bad play call, bad everything. I'm still at a loss about that play call. Care to comment or would you rather forget about it till next week. Joe

Sorry it took me so long to respond to this Joe, I had to reply to about 10 PM's making fun of my beloved Seahawks.

I think the defense is what sucked here. It seemed every time we had them backed up, 3rd and 10, 3rd and 15, they would get a 20 yd pass to Bruce (who still looks good). Or 3rd and goal on the 15, we get a BS pass interference call. It just seemed our corners weren't playing well. We had 8 sacks for F's sake, we held Gore to under a hunski, how can they put up 33 pts with those stats? Bad secondary.

sorry they let you down Joe, but they let me down too, nay, they've let an entire nation down image

On the other play - Well, the ref made the call and blew the whistle, and the replay official got it right under the rules. Refs can't let plays continue without a whistle when they think the whistle should be blown - that would be chaotic as well as possibly cause an unnecessary injury. Basically it is much ado by Norv Turner about nothing.
  • The game wasn't on tv here, but when I saw the replay of the end.....hmmm. Very interesting.

Im still amazed that Marshall caught 18 balls! If it went to OT he most likely would have shattered Owens record... next time I play Madden I wont think its unrealistic when one of my WR catches 15 balls LOL

I did not get a chance to watch the game since I worked yesterday trying to catch up on backlog. I did wee the highlights. A very entertaining game. Boith defenses were not effective against high powered offenses. The refs blew it when they blew an indavertant whistle on Cutler's "fumble".

It sure looked like a fumble,................... but the NFL rules the refs applied to the situation dictated that the Broncos keep the ball (which allowed them to score the TD and the 2 point conversion to win the game [just like the application of the "tuck rule" in the Raider/Pats playoff game years ago allowed Brady and the Pats to win the game]). Not fair in the abstract, but you play by the rules and let the league decide of the rules should be changed [I heard the league made a statement saying they would look into the rule that applied yesterday].

So the result is Denver won and the Bolts lost. Shanahan is a very good coach and his team has potential to do well this year (if the offense continues to score like it has the first two games and if the defense gets itself together). San Diego is also a very good team that had bad luck the first two games. The rematch between the two teams later this year in San Diego should be another offensive showcase.

Even if you are not fans of either team, the game yesterday showed why pro football is as popular as it is. Very, very entertaining, which I am sure make the league executives very pleased.
