MNF on 9-8-08. Brnocos at Raiders. Who will win? And does anyone care?

The Broncs have had a fair amount of success against the Raiders for the past 15 years or so. However the Raiders are still far ahead in the series between the two teams.

I dont care but I would like Selvin Young to rush for about 150 yards and 2 scores- reasonable right? Oh and then I want that anti-fantasy football guy named Mike Shanahan to actually keep starting Mr.Young.

    Thank You
  • I think the Raiders will stink again this year and I think Cutler will have a pretty good year. I think the Broncos win and I do care a little bit because I actively despise the Raiders.
  • I don't care but I wish Brandon Marshall (UCF!) would get his act together!!!image

I'm no soothsayer, but I suspect the Broncos will crush the Raiders (and this is irrespective of the fact that I am a 49ers' fan).

I might be alone on this one, but I truly believe JaMarcus Russell is a BAD quarterback. I have nothing to support this conclusion other than a "gut feeling."

19-0 would be cool. But 0-16 would be much cooler. And I'm pinning my hopes on a 0-16 season on the Raiders.

As bad as the Raiders will be, they're bound to win a couple games, especially if Javon Walker can stay healthy.

I have to look at it logically to predict the winner of this game.

As of 10 days ago, I had player collections for two players from each team. This past weekend, the Raiders waived one of the players I collect, so therefore the Broncos will win since I now collect more players from their team.

    Just simple logic.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

Raiders will be improved from last year. 5-6 wins. Denver being at least one of them.

If the AFL ever merges with the NFL, then i'll start to care.
  • I don't really care who wins but I like seeing the goofy "black hole" people. image

JaMarcus Russell basically wasted his rookie year due to an ill advised holdout so in a way this really is his rookie season.

I can't say much about Denver, but the Raiders rrrr baaaaaaaaad. Just flat bad, baby...

    I say Broncs win.

    I couldn't agree more.

  • I am more interested in the Vikings Vs Packers game, I hope the Vikings put a ton of pressure on Arodg. Also, Tjack needs to have a solid game or he will be hearing it all year.

I really don't understand the anti-Raider sentiment. They have a top five D and drafted the best RB in the draft by far. I think Jamarcus is more of a mobile QB so their running game should be pretty decent. A decent running game and a great defense usually spells out a .500 or better season.

The Broncos on the other hand, had a terrible D last year and did nothing to improve it. Take out Champ Bailey and they would be the worst in the league.

I'll take the Raiders in a low scoring 14-10 type game.

I don't care, my HD plasma only gets NESN. Can we say Rays vs Red Sox in Fenway at 7PM Eastern??

Football is for after the WS. But, for those of you who watch the game, I hope you enjoy.

  • I hope this is the last time in my life I am wrong, but I fear it may not be.
  • I need 38 total points to win my pool...17-0 Denver at the half--looks like the Broncos are going to have to carry the load in that department. The Raiders are just stinking up the joint....

With the score 41-7, I think I can reasonably say I nailed this prediction. Of course, I'll probably go "O" for the rest of the season.

  • Turns out getting 38 total points to win the pool wasn't that hard after all. The Raiders quit 5 minutes into the third quarter...

At least you had the stones to come on here and make a prediction and I applaud that - Not like some here who never make a pick and never lay it on the line, and do nothing but criticize whenever there is a bad pick, but ignore the good picks. What I'm not sure you realize is although you know my feelings towards gambling websites, they are money fleecing scumbags, I've always respected your guts for laying it out there for all the world to see your play in your online poker threads.

Give your sports picks another go if you feel like it - Next time you may look like a sports handicapping genius.

It's "smart" in my view to "rarely bet football" and I never bet football because as most know here, I believe it's impossible for anyone to beat the sports bookies in the long-run, and I don't feel like making the sports bookies a bit richer than they already are by losing my money to them. But there is a handicapper here, Brian (iamthegreatcornholio), who consistantly handicaps games better than anyone I've ever seen - When he misses games, it's usually because of an "odd" event such as a crazy play of some sort, but unfortunately those crazy plays happen all the time in the NFL and the juice winds up destroying a bankroll. But Brian almost never gets the basic fundamentals of a game wrong - if he says it's gonna be a close game then it's rarely a blowout, etc. - his handicappping record here is remarkable.

Now that I've complimented Brian, he'll probably never post here again. image
  • Picking sports is really just guessing. We all have a different interpretation of what we think will happen, and none of us are really informed enough to make a decision based on anything concrete other than what we see on TV and hear from analysts. I would think that guys "in the know", like former coaches, scouts, players, etc... who really know what goes on in the field would fare much better than us mere observers, but even they probably couldn't overcome the vig in sports betting.

You're right and I think a good example of that is Pete Rose - From what I've read, despite him even being the manager of the Reds and having some control over the game, he still lost money, a lot of money, to his bookies.

Well, my Broncos are half way to a successful season (IMHO a successful season requires a minimum record of 2-14 with the two wins being against the Raiders; and an unsuccessful season could be 14-2 with the two losses being against the Raidersimage). The Broncos opened up a can of "Whoop ***" on the Raiders to the angst of the Silver and Black fans in the Black Hole of the Oakland's home stadium.

I was very surprised to see how well the Broncos played. There offense looked pretty good. If their defense plays well this year [a question mark], they could have a good season.

I was not surprised to see how lousy the Raiders played. Same thing that has happened for decades. Too many penalties, sloppy play all around, no discipline and a coach who has no power. As long as Al Davis keeps all of the power to himself and does not let a coach have the power to control things, the Raiders will continue to have lousy seasons. If the Raider's continue play like they have for the past 5 seasons, do you think Kiffin will last the year? I doubt it. He would probably welcome being fired so that he can continue his coaching somewhere else that will actually give him the power to control things.

Now if the Broncos can perform an encore of last night's performance in November when the Raiders visit Invesco field,................... I will be a happy camper.
