Check out my Martin collection now !!

Background- Took the family to our 1st Dodger game in 2006. Saw Russ Martin hit his 1st MLB HR. Decided then and there he was the one I would collect. Being on a budget I decided to limit it to one card. I chose his 05 BDP as there were a few variations to chase. While I was scrounging up the $ to get this card, it slipped thru my fingers. It is now in my posession thanks to Bigfan5. (a BMB member)

All cards were avail. in packs from 05 BDP and Bowman Originals, minus the raw auto card that was a IP (not by me). I also branched out a little to include 2005 Futures game items and a ball auto'd from his 1st HR.

If you have any 05 BDP that I could use to upgrade or any 1/1's, please LMK.

Thanks to Bigfan5-image

  • Awesome collection but I probably would have gone with Matt Kemp if I was picking one of the young Dodger's stars. Of course, I never can pick the right prospect. I have about 150 nice Joe Thurston (another former Dodger) rookie cards that I can not give away now. For some reason when I tried to burn them they jumped out of the fire and back into the top loaders.
  • No prospecting here. This collection is never to be sold. If he doesnt pan out.....I'll just get the other cards easier/cheaper.

I picked Martin as it was our 1st Dodger game and he hit his 1st MLB HR. A commemerative for him and us.

Martin hit his 1st HR 5-7-06 and Kemp didnt debut until 5-28-06.

beautiful collection, rock-solid player.....i've heard plenty about the Dodgers discussing the trading of Kemp, but not Martin.....i think he's gonna be here for awhile.

Really nice collection. I'm the same way with my Gomes rookies - I only "collect" a couple of his cards and the parallels, and for some reason I just buy them every chance I get. I just like the way he plays the game. I'm surprised that bigfan5 let that one go - he's the one with all the Dodger reds and supers, correct? Also, just out of curiousity, what made you go with the BDP card instead of the Bowman rookie?

Great collection of a GREAT player. (also gets a nod from me as he is Canadian)

Have you thought of picking up one of his SP autographed RCs? They are still pretty reasonable and with only 185 made they would be a nice addition.

  • You have a very nice player collection in the making. Congrats!

It's good to see people collecting their favorite players. In the end, that's what is way more enjoyable for me.
  • That's a very beautiful collection!

  • mudflap02- Yep, that's him. In 2006 I saw that Red Chrome on a BIN and immediately starting selling things to buy it. He then came in and bought it. I emailed my collection goal and a offer to buy it, with a profit for him. His hinting of a price just way too much for me.

He then was going after the tag cards. I won them all that was listed but one, that ended at $180. Later in life he gave that card to me free as a nice gesture because I gave him a serch tip that landed a rare card he was seeking.

We continued talking and he decided it would be best with me so he accepted to sell it.

I went with BDP vs. Bowman as the BDP had the tag cards=more versions (I like versions image ) and I think the Bowman Originals buyback auto's were out as well thus adding to the version count.

artistlost - Everytime I stray from my Martin BDP/FF/Dodger Xfractor RC collection, I find a "must have" and then have to sell that card to afford the other. As a sole supporter of my family, my hobby $ is small.

Thanks everyne for the kind words. It's a collection that is special to us and something I'm proud of.
