From now on...

I will buy cards already graded. I am sick of sending cards off and getting poor grades, and it seems like it is getting worse. Now, I don't claim to be the perfect card expert, but some of the grades and qualifiers have gotten out of hand recently; for me, anyways. Maybe they are all cowboys fans?? Anyone else experiencing this same problem as of late?

It takes a lot of trial and error to figure out what PSA looks for and how they grade. Throw up some scans and I'm sure a bunch of us would be happy to say if we feel they are accurately graded.

It is often much cheaper - and always easier - to buy cards that
    are already graded.

I absolutely agree. Espcecially if youre looking to complete a set and need a bunch of commons. You're way better off just buying them graded. Even if it costs you a couple of bucks extra per card, it's worth saving the headaches.

You got that right, CDs. In agreement with the other comments as well. I'm done sending cards in. If I get some extra time I will scan a few and you can judge for yourself.

    Thanks

I cannot tell if that is a sarcastic statement or not, nor did I specify it was PSA, but no one is grading my cards anymore either way you look at it! image

I've been having these thoughts as well.

I agree. I'm a person who pays good attention to detail in just about everything I do. I learned very early on in my young PSA submitting career to be very scrutinizing with my cards. You also can't let personal feelings and emotions about your cards interfere when going over the condition of cards you will submit. I've been pretty darn accurate on the few submissions I've sent.

It was me. I called Joe and told him some Redskin fan would be sending some cards in and to be sure they get the "treatment"

I agree. There is no consistancy anymore. I pretty much stick to the same type of card (mordern autographs). Sure, I'll miss a few things here and there, but generally get pretty close. Ok, so check this out.

These are grades from my two year PSA renewal.

The Namath went from trimmed to a 9, Mays went from trimmed to a 9, Brown went from trimmed to 8.5 and the Ford went from trimmed to 9 or 9MK.

Whats so frustrating is that you have to keep cracking and resubmitting until you get lucky enough to get it in the right graders hands.

No you don't. You can simply stop submitting your cards to PSA, as I and many others have done, and either keep them raw or send them to another grading company.

There's no rule that says that you MUST get your cards graded, and certainly no rule that says you must get them graded by PSA.

If you think that they are no longer providing you with good value for your money, then stop sending them your $$$!

I had some disappointing and some eye popping grades, so it encourages me to send more image

There's still too much subjectivity in grading. The same card, according to many stories on here, may be graded an 8, 9, or even a 10 depending upon who grades it. To me the differences between an 8 and a 10 should be obvious to the naked eye, much less a "trained" grader. I doubt anything will change, since like paypal and ebay, the grading companies make more money by making mistakes as opposed to doing it right the first time
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • So all of you agree its cheaper to buy already graded cards...mental note.

I have never submitted a card for grading and probably never will. I like spending my money on already graded cards, so I know what I am getting. I am not sure how good a judge of a grade I would be, so I will leave it up to the experts like many of you.

    experts like many of you

  • so I know what I am getting

Not necessarily, as Gator pointed out.

The "subjectivity" of the "experts" never ceases to amaze me.

Don't get me wrong, though, PSA is the only way to go.

There's a hole in my head where the rain comes in.
  • Agree with many points here and the folks who re-submit are loved by PSA, etc. I'm sure. Better get one hell of a Christmas Card from them.

Oh, and thanks for screwin' up my order, lawnmowerman. Not surprising at all from a cowboys fan image
