What If Aaron Rodgers Truly Does Give The Packers A Better Chance To Win The Super Bowl ...

As inconceivable as it may seem, what if Aaron Rodgers truly does give the Packers a better chance of winning the Super Bowl over Brett Favre? If that is the case, I could better understand (though still not completely understand) the Packers position in this entire debaucle.

He will be given a shot to do that, all he needs to do is win the job in training camp first- however if that happens then I see Favre being traded to team that despretaly needs QB help like the Sucs or something...
  • Well, whatever happens will be in sports pages everywhere until resolution. Not a Packer fan, wish it would just go away, sure seems unfair to Rodgers though.

...to quote someone a lot smarter than me, I'm sure.........Life isn't fair.
  • Rodgers certainly has handled things well so far.

Yes, he certainly has. He has even said that if Favre comes back as the starter, he will not ask to be traded as he understands his role in that relationship. I hope for good things for Rodgers...hopefully he will be a very successful starting QB for the Packers someday. image

Favre was 2nd in MVP voting last year. This is not Bledsoe/Brady where everybody close to the team could see who was better.

Hard to believe Rodgers would be better than the "second most valuable player" in the league. Inconceivable is the right word Jack.

Agreed. Hopefully it all works out well for him.

After being picked as the #2 QB taken in the 2004 draft Rogers has had three years of "understudy" grooming with the plan being that he takes the starting QB spot for the Packers once Brett Farve retries.

I suspect that his body has not suffered major abuse (injuries and general pounding) during the past three years and that he has learned alot being a back up. Whether that translates into him being a QB who can lead the Packers as a starter remains to be seen.

Compare what has happened to Rogers with what has happened to the # 1 QB taken that year, Alex Smith of the 49rs. He was immediately given the helm and for the past three years has been put through a meat grinder with three separate offensive coordinators, an offensive line that can't protect him, a medicore running game and a lack of receivers who can run and catch the ball. The result for Smith is a physical pounding, shoulder injury, strained relations with his head coach and fans wanting him cut from the team.

I wonder which of the two quarterbacks will have a better overall career in the end?

Just a guess but I don't think Green Bay management plans on playing Farve. He's back in case Rogers is awful or gets injured, but more likely they still think they will be able to trade him. Imagine how good a position they would be in if God forbid either one of the Mannings, Romo or Brady had a season ending injury in preseason or first couple weeks of the regular season. They could almost name their price within reason. Would Farve turn down a chance to go to one of those teams, I doubt it.
