I keep hearing that Manny wants his next deal to $100mil....is Boras out of his mind? does he really think he'll get that?
If I'm a GM, I wouldn't give him any more than 2 years, $35mil....but some schmuck GM is going to give him a 4-year deal, and if it's any more than $65mil, that GM should be fired immediately.

<< <i>How much would it suck to see Manny DH for the Yankees next year? You know, if one team will part with foolish money just for the sake of doing so, it's NY. I think they would be crazy enough to pay him. >>
That's for sure. It sounds like something they would do.

Not gonna happen. Everybody thinks the Yankees are still operated like they were in yesteryear I am sure it is fun for some of you to bring about this talk but, really, it is just a natural reflex for those who feel slighted. And as usual, Boston fans are showing disdain once again for a player that brought them alot of success. There is a looooooong track record of this .... Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, Johnny Damon, Pedro Martinez, and now Manny Ramirez. What a shame ... and when the day comes (and it will) when the Sox are far removed from a championship they will all be forced to re-visit these guys that have been lambasted as they leave the team. TRUST ME it will happen.

In Manny's case, not true. I think most Sox fans will always appreciate Manny's postseason heroics and Yankee-killing hitting. I actually think his hasty exit is a shame, because he has tarnished the end of a HOF career due to his petty selfishness.
And lets review the others on this list that you think were "dissed":
Clemens -- After completing a then-fattest contract for a pitcher (4 year, $20 mil), Clemens gets fat the last 2 years of that contract, turns in a losing record in 1996. He was offered a competitive 4 years, $24 million, but goes for the money in Toronto and suddenly gets into shape and wins 2 Cy Youngs.
Boggs -- I don't remember what the Red Sox offered him, but I think he wanted to win a WS with the Yankees -- heck, I can't blame him.
Damon -- Offered a competitive 4-year $11 million deal, which I think was slightly overpaying him, but Yankees overpaid more at $13 million a year. If the Red Sox overpaid everyone like that, they woud have a $220 million payroll, which only the Yankees can afford.
Pedro -- Offered 3 years at $13 million per, Mets gave him 4 years. Looks like even 3 years was one too many.
And let's add:
Nomar -- Stupidly turned down 4 years at $14 million per year, then became clubhouse cancer, forcing the team to trade him. We all know how that turned out for the Sox.
So each of these players were given very competitive offers that were turned down or topped, or they brought on the adverse exit themselves. But each of these players are still appreciated for their contributions to Red Sox history: Clemens' amazing early years, Boggs the pernnial batting champ, Pedro in his prime with obscene sub-2 ERAs, Damon killing the Yankees, Nomar's amazing .350+ seasons, all a pleasure to watch during those so-called "curse" years.
<< <i>Unless he lights it up in LA >>
That's the problem. HE IS LIGHTING IT UP IN L.A. After tonight, in four (4) games, Manny is batting .625 (10 for 16) with 5 Runs, 5 RBIs, 2 HRs and a OPS of 1.730.

Which is just further proof that he wasn't giving 100% while he was in Boston.

OR NL pitching is just that bad
<< <i>OR NL pitching is just that bad >>
Touche!
But he has hit against Randy Johnson and Chris Carpenter while in the NL. They may be shadows of their former selves, but I still can't remember the last time that Manny collected 10 hits in 4 games . . . in fact, I know it's the only time he's done that this season. Oh well. I guess I shouldn't dwell on it at this point.

bingo, he figures he has an audience that might give him stupid money now...no more "Manny being Manny" antics for two months -- if he can pull that part off.

Don't expect Yankee fans with an IQ of your keyboard to understand this excellent logic.
<< <i>Unless he lights it up in LA >>
And he still is lighting it up. Geez. So after today, in 6 games, Manny is batting .619 (13 for 21), with 7 runs, 9 RBIs and 4 HRs and a 1.905 OPS.
I guess this is what happens when Manny gives it 100% effort. (Of course the [purportedly] weak NL pitching doesn't hurt either.)

no doubt about it, Manny is a great hitter...but only when he actually TRIES! Once he has a contract locked up, what are the chances he goes back to not caring?
were "stuck" in their contract, and both felt like they were going to get more money if Boston freed Manny from his contract.
Then, Manny started to dog it so Boston would hate him, and trade him.
<< <i>Who is the bigger cancer Boras or Manny here? I vote for Boras, last year it was A-rod this year it will be Manny. >>
No doubt it's Boras.

This was reported to be the case in the Boston Globe. My question is, what is Selig going to do about it if his office concludes that Manny was, in fact, mailing it in? It doesn't seem like there is much they can do.
