ESPN gives the Pirates no love

Now I understand Manny is the big name in this trade, but Bay was our Manny as far as playing ability goes. Every report on Espn either has someone from Boston or LA, no opinions from Pittsburgh on the trade. Thats what happens when your small market going up against big market behemeth's(spelling?) LA and Boston.

Not to put too fine of an edge on it, but I think that has less to do with the Bucs market size and more to do with the fact that the team has sucked for almost two full decades. But look on the bright side-- at least the Pirates had something that a contending team would want. For 15 years the Tigers were so terrible that the couldn't even hold a fire sale, since they didn't have any players that anyone would want. You know it's bad when Bobby Higginson is the face of the franchise for 10 straight years.
  • They also brought in 4 prospects/young players, while the other two brought in All Stars and are also still in contention for the post season.

Also the drama around Manny basically dominated that trade.

Steve Phillips said on ESPN News that he thought it was a good move for the Pirates, especially after being huge LOSERS on the Marte/Nady trade.

I agree. I think it will work out well for them.

i thought they got 4 decent players for bay. laroache could be very good and that OF from the bosox is supposed to be a decent player. i don't think they did terrible for nady/marte deal, kartsen pitched well today. the market for lefthanded relievers dropped to almost nothing and they got 4 players so if 1 or 2 can help their better off.

...no offense, but why should ESPN give the Pirates any love? I mean, really, they're the Pirates. But don't worry, my Giants and A's get no love either. And if it makes you feel any better, I am said it pains the exec at ESPN that they have to mention the Brewers and Rays each night. The only teams that exist in the MLB (in the execs at ESPN eyes) are the Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs and now maybe the Dodgers since they landed Ramirez.

At least with baseball cards you can count on all the teams getting a fair shake.
