Rest in Peace Bobby Murcer

Former Yankee great Murcer dies at 62

Truly a great Yankee and more importantly human being

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

You knew this was coming because of his health and everything he has been through. It was amazing that he got a couple of games in the booth this year. He was always a joy to listen to. I certainly know that I will miss hearing him. I also have had the opportunity to meet him a few years back and one of the nicest guys you would EVER meet.
    RIP

In 1971, Bobby Murcer was the best player in baseball.
For the period 1970 -1972, Bobby Murcer was the best player in baseball.
For the decade of the 1970's, Bobby Murcer was the 7th best player in baseball, about the equal of Rod Carew.
Bobby Murcer was a much better baseball player than Jim Rice. You can argue the point and out of respect for Murcer I will not even let on what an idiot I think you are.

One of baseball's truly unsung greats, ignored by NY fans and the country in general because he wasn't as good as Mickey Mantle who he had the misfortune to try to replace.

    R.I.P.
This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

Aww, that's rough. I always enjoyed watching him play. 62 is way too young. RIP Bobby.

Very sad. He was one of my favorite players from that era. I had the pleasure of listenting to his stories and shaking his hand just a couple of months before he was diagnosed. The guy was awesome, and I'll miss him a lot image

excellent player... very sad that he is gone at an early age

    edited to add:

I remember watching him play on television for the first time. The Angels were playing the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. This had to have been either 1968 or 69. The Angels were up 2-0 bottom of the 9th. Murcer comes up with two on and two outs... Pitching change for the Angels and George Brunett, a lefty and a normal starter for the Angels, comes in to pitch to Murcer and what do you think happens? Murcer hits a homer to win the game 3-2. Somehow that whole 9th inning was predictable...seems like yesterday going on 40 years ago

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

way too young .... just way to young. Bobby Murcer was a Grade A human being. He also happened to love everything that comes along with being associated for so long with the New York Yankees. image
