What is a "STAT" ball?

Sorry, new to buying auto's.

What does an auction mean if it says "stat" ball??

I don't have a clue.

Imprinted on the ball will be a stat.

For instance a ball signed by pete rose would have stamped on the ball 4256 and the date or something like

    NL MVP 1973
    etc etc

not to be confused with a game used ball

A ball marketed with some stats and a signature...

If the listing is referring to STAT Authentic, a supposed "authenticator", then run away very quickly.

    STAT Authentic has ZERO credibility.

What Vito said is also another way and Moose is correct to.

Net 54 has an 800 plus post count thread right now about that.

IMO it could be either one, vito's example or mine.

    ask the seller.

I also think, that a game used ball that was used in a milestone and had that milestone
recorded on the ball could also be considered a stat ball too.

As long as a stat in printed/written on a ball it is a stat ball.

Steve, I've seen them pre-printed on the ball too. This is more common with jerseys - I've seen a bunch of those lately

    Thanks guys.

It's no wonder I didn't know what it mean, there were about three different possibilities!!image

I think the stuff I'm looking it is what Steve said, there are stats on the ball , the ball was never used in a game, but the auto's are PSA/DNA so perhaps I'm safe.

I'll stay away from the STAT authentic stuff.

Thanks again for the help, I couldn't figure it out.

  • I have always taken it mean a ball with several stats of the player on it, as in the link to the Guidry above. I have a ball that I had signed by Gearge Kell TTM, and he covered the side panels with stats and career milestones, very cool ball.

That is my understanding as well. If it just has one or two things, it would be with inscription, but if they wrote out all their career numbers and a key event or two, it was a stat ball. Or at least all the first stat marketed balls were like that.

The above is a 'stat' ball too.
