No surprise, everyone knew NGC would grade a hi percentage as 70s.

And, so the road down to about $2,250 or so per "70" set begins? You think?

Maybe, that's why you should send them to PCGS. You are guaranteed much better resale value for your 70's

FBH - When every "Tom, Dick & Harry" gets back their "flippin" sets, don't expect too much more out of PCGS coins either IMHO. Do you know what those scarce, "limit 1 per household" PCGS 70 Jeff Spouse coins fetch these days - just 90 days later? But, of course, the early PCGS sales will look mighty impressive I suspect.

I agree on the early sets wil probably do best just like the Jefferson's Liberty Spouse. As far as where they wind up, IMO it depends om how well they grade. For the APE PRDCAM the 70 ratio is around 15% so I would not expect a high 70 First StrikeSM population on the Proof 10th anniversary coin, reason why I think it will likey be the key to the set and will probably sell for more in a 70 than the Reverse Proof since I feel the APE Reverse Proof may grade at a high 70 ratio like the AGE Reverse Proof.

FBH - Of course, I agree the regular Proof will be interesting after PCGS changed gears to recognize it. But, PCGS product can only sell for so much if and when the other services' product falls into the $2,000's for "70" sets.

Yep, you could send them to PCGS get far fewer PR70's and depending on how many are submitted, likely breakeven overall.

Very true, but the 70's you do get will at least be worth something. Even if you get 69's you could probably send them to NGC and still get a 70.

At least these won't develop milkspots. Hold long term just like the Jefferson Liberties. I wonder how many 70's they have. Very interesting to watch.

I can buy NGC 70 sets @ $2850 right now. I can only assume the grade through rate is HUGE. Anyone have early figures?

So, how much longer to $2,250?

I didn't see any updates on the 10th anniversary.

Here are the regular $50 plats

I would expect about 2/3 70s just like the buffalos. I get calls from NGC Buffalo 70 owners all the time who have figured out that their 70 means nothing when it is more common than the 69 and they want to upgrade to PCGS. So will these end up spot plus $20 like NGC MS70 Buffalos?

Edit: looks like the regular PT $50 is 75% 70s, even higher than the Buffalos.

"hmmmm.... wondercoin.... $2250? How many NGC 70 sets would you like to short at that price? I'll even give you 60 days to deliver....."

John: I have no interest in buying or selling any of the NGC sets. Just observing. I even made a fair comment that the PCGS sets might not be all that exciting either after a short while. The product is simply not all that exciting to me - nothing like the 20th Anniv Gold IMHO. I like the rest of the Proof Platinum complex far more (see my recent thread on the subject). Your question would be like me asking you how many NGC sets you would commit to buy 60 days from now at 90% of your current asking price of $3,182? That would be entirely inappropriate to ask you just as your question to me was really not reasonable since I am entitled to express an opinion here on PCGS' corporate mesage board. We will all see soon enough if my opinion that prices will not likely hold these $3,000+ levels proves correct or wrong. And, if I am wrong, I will also be the first to admit it.

John - In case you missed my position on these sets well before a single coin reached any of the grading services or before any prices fall (or rise).

Look at it this way, those two Plat coins

will always be worth the face value of

$50 a coin or a total of $100 dollars for both.

That makes the downside only 1850 dollars

even if platinum goes down to zero.image

Oh, lighten up Mitch, I understood your remarks and was just busting chops on the 2250 number. I agree these will not have the popularity of the 20th anniversary gold sets, but they are still special because of the reverse proof.

John - Yes, they are special because of the reverse proof. But, yet, every single Proof Plat from 1997-date is special as a Type coin as well. I think you enjoy the Proof Plats as I do. A series with spectacular potential (as the W burnished are as well).

When the Mint attempts to have 30,000 different people buy a coin in a metal where 8,500 is a typical worldwide max mintage, you nearly guarantee chaos to level pricing IMHO. Hence, my view that these sets may weaken - slabbed, unslabbed, etc.. This view might change if the Mint cuts off sales on 12/31/07 as opposed to raising the buying limits as they just did with the D. Madison spouse coin. We'll see. At least it is always exciting.
