Card geek here, I have a question about a coin

I'll put up a scan if necessary but I found a 1964 quarter in a roll. I looked at the edge and I did not see any copper in it, at least I assume it's copper in quarters now. I'm not expecting much from this but is it worth more than .25..lol

It's in decent condition, not too much wear on it.

Thanks

matt

1964 quarters are 90% silver, so you shouldn't see any copper in the edge.

  • 1964 was the last year that the US made sliver coins for circulation...the dimes, quarters and halves.

90% Silver presently worth at leat $2.50 simply for silver content...nice score... image

better be careful...you'll get the bug and next thing you know, you'll cash in your cards and start collecting coins... image
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free image

Yes, it's worth more than 25 cents...somewhere in the $2 range I believe because of the silver content.

And you could probably sell if for around 9x face value, depending on the price of silver.

Well that was a lucky find since you didn't know what to look for.

Same thing for 10c, 25c and 50c from 1964 and older. Good luck finding more. image

I see that your question has already been answered. But I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you card collectors for helping us coin collectors feel better about ourselves. image

    Amen to that, mate.
  • Now, if it was a 1965 quarter without a copper core, then that would be really worth something!
