Bad pics.... Great coins?? (picture thread)

After seeing a couple of beauties that Relicsncoins snagged off of eBay (posted in another thread), and catching other nice coins that are posted randomly on the forum - I thought it would be cool to have a picture thread that shows:

(A) Seller's "bad pic" & (B) the Great coin you received!!

I'll start.... with one of my first *blind* buys, less than 10 bucks for these:

(A) SELLER HAD NO PIC (B) image

I don't have the seller's original picture of this one, but basically it was like my scan below, except smaller and blurrier.

Now, look at a photograph of the same coin, and you can see why I was very pleased when I opened the envelope.

Consider too that in my photo below, I still did not adequately capture the colors of the coin.

I very strongly suspect the coin is a proof, too, meaning it's worth about a hundred bucks, rather than the ten a BU is worth. I paid $9.99.

Here's the seller's photo. It looked promising --

-- it was. Here is what joined the fold.

I like the idea of this thread. You often hear people state how ebay is nothing more than an ominus black hole. That simply is not true. With care (and at times a little luck) you can run across coins that are simply great! AskRaq's, LM's and my examples show that it can and does happen.

    ttt for the day crew.

Years ago (2001?) on Ebay this one had a really poor, dull, dark pic attached to the auction (I never saved the original pic)....the coin is such a monster in person that I honestly don't know how such a poor pic was achieved as even in natural light, its colors pop. For the life of me, I don't even know what I was thinking bidding on it at the time. But I'm glad I did! image This pic is very accurate.

  • I got a light motto quarter off ebay that was not mentioned in the auction as such. MS64 or so for under $50.00 the images were at an odd angle.
