Question about coins that were upgraded during regrade submissions

So if you get a coin to actually upgrade, and it gets a new serial number; what happens to the original serial number listed in your registry set? Does it go poof, along with your info and pic?

  • I don't think they would issue a new certification number. Just update the old one with the new information.

Actually if you get a coin re-graded you get a new serial number also.

I ran into trouble when I had 12 half eagles re-graded and the all came back with different numbers even the ones that came back the same grade. The trouble was they forgot to register them in the system and I had to scan them all in to prove they were legit. image

When you submit for regrades, you get new cert. (serial) numbers. The original numbers are still valid, however, and they can still be listed in your registry. If there were any TruView images, then they are still available with the old cert numbers, also.

As a result, I worry that PCGS population reports might be wrong.

In the past I have run into a few problems with regrades, but customer service at PCGS has always been quick to correct any problemsimage
